Default Incomplete TV series on Blu-ray

I'm starting to look at buying some TV series on Blu-ray, but for certain series, the fact that they are not available in their entirety on Blu-ray is holding me off from buying them.

Series like Heroes and Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles, are available from season 1 and onward. As such, I feel safe buying them as logically speaking, the entirety of the series should be out on Blu-ray.

However, for series such as Lost (only s3-4 on BD) and Smallville (only s6-7 on BD), they start somewhere halfway and I was wondering if it has been confirmed that these series will be released in their entirety on Blu-ray, starting with season 1.

So, any news on those series?

No official news, but you can bet that they will eventually make it to BD.

Here is the problem with releasing earlier seasons of series like 'Lost' and 'Smalville.' People who have been collecting these on DVD prior to ANY season announced on BD will not want to spend another $70+ to double dip for them. As such, the studios (for the meantime) are catering to those collectors who want the best and don't care about similie on their shelves. Personally, I'm still going to buy the DVDs for 'Smallville' because I want them all to match. However, the other side of the coin is that the more they sell of a series season on BD, they more likely that they will prioritize previous seasons for BD treatment. As is, the production lines are already being pushed to the limits with all of the new content being released and the older TV content just isn't a surefire enough gamble for profitable venture.

So, take it as you will... Buy the BDs that ARE available to do your part in telling the studios that you want more, or wait for an eternity for the BD market to catch up with the DVD market.

This part caught my attention. I hadn't thought of it this way, but indeed, holding off to buy would only have a negative impact on any possible future BD release of the series I want. In that regard, perhaps it's not so bad to just go ahead and buy what is already available. Hopefully, the studios will realize there's profit to be made and releases the remaining seasons on BD as well.

Exactly! I picked up season 3 of 'Lost' on BD. But, I haven't ever seen an episode. Now, I'm stuck with the BD until seasons 1 & 2 are released because I ain't gonna have nothing to do with the DVDs. If I'm not mistaken, this show was the first to be filmed completely as film production quality. I have a feeling that my season 3 Blu-ray will be collecting a large amount of dust before it gets some play in my PS3!!!

Why would you buy the 3rd season of a television show that you've never seen?

Sopranos is another show which def would look good.

My biggest complaint regarding tv plans has to be Prison Break.

Fox released season 1 & than 3

No season 2?

WTF

This.

I only have six episodes left to watch. Will probably knock them all out on Friday. Makes me wonder how long I will have to wait to continue the series. I E-Mailed Fox about it, but they won't respond.

I'm in the same boat as you! I would like to buy Prison Break but where the hell is Season 2? I've never seen it but until they release season 2, oh well!

Because I have several friends who have an uncanny similar taste in entertainment and they are more devout about the show then their personal faiths! Plus, I had the opportunity to get a brand new copy of 'Lost' season 3 for $24.99. I couldn't pass that up considering the rave reviews it was getting for PQ and AQ.

Well, Season 5 would be nice start. I'm furious that they are leaving us hanging again without a Blu release just like they did with Rescue Me - Season 4. I'm not from the US so the only way for me to watch these shows is actually buying them, but I simply refuse to purchase DVD sets when I got the previous season on Blu-ray.

I can understand not releasing past seasons on Blu-ray yet, but abandoning the format after one release is downright malevolent.

completely agree

also for em the price tag is to much, I find with TV shows you watch them once (unless they are the simpsons, south park etc..) so I dont mind picking up the SD tv shows unless the entire series is on there like Sarah Coner Chronicles, which was well priced and worth it.

also Blu Ray exsclusive features are a big selling point.

I believe Lost will release season 1 & 2 after the sixth season is releaed. That is when the show is slated to end. I bought 3 and pre-ordered 4 to let the studios know, hey I am interestd. Heroes was easier since they already had season one in HD. Noew if they can can just release MacGyver, Wings, and Forever Knight in Blu-Ray I would be happy.

Forever Knight I can assure you will never happen. The DVDs sold TERRIBLY. There's a very noisy but very small fan base for it that included someone with influence, I think that's the only reason it ever got released on DVD in the first place.

MacGyver is the only one out of those that stands a chance of an HD release down the road

I agree with what you said that unless a show thats on blu-ray is just sold out everywhere all the time I doubt they'd be like TOP priority seasons 1-5 of sopranos, even though I paid full price for those at bestbuy lol

as far as quality its hard watching seasons 1-5 for me anyway of sopranos knowing how amazing part 1&2 of season 6 look I'd pay top dollar to have'm all but I don't think it'll happen anytime soon

I'm happy to be able to buy Heroes and Terminator TSCC starting season 1, but I'm hoping other series will also be released entirely, including Smallville, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica (the new series)

I would make an exception for Lost Seasons 1 and 2. I bought both of those in January and I would seriously drop the cash to get them on Blu Ray. They look stunning in HD.
