Are you interested in 3D on Blu-ray?

I should have added an option at the top of just Yes (without the conditions) as one of the first options in the poll as well. In the 3rd option, when I say "should be capable of outputting 2d too", I mean capable of outputting a 3d movie as 2d, as well as 3d (not just outputting existing 2d movies).

Well myself since i can't see 3d i'd say no but even if i copuld what kind of disc space would be used vs standard 2d? As long as it doesn't affect my pq /aq
i wouldn't care...but if it needed it's own disc that might not be so good.

3D works with 2 eyes while i can only use 1 of 2 so i can't see 3D -i know this is the big thing now but wish there were 2d and 3d versions in multiplexs.

Bolt from disney comes to mind as well as toy story 3 and 1 and 2 when re-released next year. 3's supposedlly 2010.

The "Multi-Viewpoint" 3D option in the poll should work even if people don't have stereo vision I think (I'm not sure though). eg. with multi-viewpoint 3D and a display that can output it (or if there was an eye/head tracking device) you should be able to move your head sideways a bit or up/down and see a slightly different viewpoint (depending on what views were stored on the disc as well as which were computer generated views).

I think it would depend on what format they stored it in, but as far as I know most 3D movies aren't that long, bandwidth would be more of a problem than disc space I think. They might be able to use the fact that both streams (for a left & right eye image or more) would be quite similar to each other for more efficient encoding. They could also make 3D compatible with 100GB discs if possible (but I think 50GB discs should usually be sufficient, and they can always use >1 disc for extra features).

Too many voting options.

I am largely in favor for 3D Blu-rays though. I've always been a fan of 3D movies, especially the cliche horror ones. I own a number of bootleg anaglyph DVDs and in a couple of weeks I'm seeing a 3D showing of Friday the 13th Part 3 in a theater.

And for you nah sayers, what's the point? Why wouldn't you want an extra feature? Who doesn't like bringing out a 3D movie every once in awhile for you and your friends to get drunk and have a good laugh to. Wearing glasses is key too, without glasses the entire atmosphere is destroyed.

I think a lot of the talk includes how the 3D effects would be rendered through the player, so no extra disc space would be needed. Not sure if someone can cite that for me but I know I've read that in articles touching on Blu-ray utilizing 3D.

hell yeah!!! I want 3D, I don't mind lcd glasses either as long as it's compatible with my current hdtv and it gives an experience similar to that of an IMAX, obviousley not at that level but something similar to it. I also don't want to be forced to buy another BD player, I hope they can somehow make my ps3 upgrade with a firmware.

I think for good quality 3D (where each eye would receive a picture as good as existing 2D Blu-ray discs), it would take extra bandwidth & disc space per hour of content. Though if done efficiently it shouldn't take too much extra bandwidth/space. ie. stereoscopic shouldn't take double the space if they used the similarities between the left image when generating the right.

I think you might be talking players generating 3d effects from existing 2d movie discs. I think there was talk of that but the quality and accuracy of the 3d effect won't be as good as a 3d standard with the 3d (eg. stereoscopic) picture streams stored on the disc.

I think this would be fantastic, and it's not too different from current players and displays that it couldnt' be backwards compatible.

Maybe this is an opportunity to get deep colour and XV colour in as well!
