Default Your Default Audio?

Every time I put in a Blu-Ray I hope the default audio is the best on the disc but most often that's not the case. Do you prefer the better audio as the default selection?

This really has nothing to do with them because many studios do this. So please everyone who participates in this poll/thread lets not Warner bash. There are plenty of thread already for that.

I think most people do not hate Warner. We just want them to do a better job.

I agree that the High-rez should be the default audio, particularily when it comes to TRUEHD and DTSMA.

I understand that. And you understand that. But somehow, someway, I'm telling you - this is destined to turn into an ugly b**tchfest about WB.

Or even worse a thread about the possibility of this thread turning into a "I hate Warner" thread..

Certainly, I do expect the best audio to be default. Warner is not alone in the practice for having the BD start automatically with the lesser audio format.

When it comes to Blu-Ray, the greater audio should always be the default.

There actually is a reason for that. On PCM, your average consumer will not know what they're doing wrong if they're hooked up through optical and only getting stereo or no sound at all (this can happen with HDMI as well). They also wont understand why DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD are only showing up as lossy sources.

They default to the the tracks that basically everyone can use. However, I think Paramount and Sony got it right when they just put "Dolby TrueHD" as the only selection for whatever language. That way if you can decode TrueHD, you'll get it and if you can't, you'll get the lossy Dolby Digital track (assuming you're using your equipment right).

What I want is for our players to be able to default to the highest quality track. Sony used to make players like that. They'd basically default to DTS, then Dolby Digital, then Dolby Surround. If our players could just automatically select the lossless/uncompressed audio track automatically, I think that'd be pretty nice.

I usually check the settings on the disc before I start the movie. Just to be sure. sometimes the default is Dobly Digital when a Dolby TrueHD is available
