Okay, so I have decided that i do not want to sped the money on an LCD when for the same amount or less, I can get a 42 plasma that will outplay any LCD with the same price range. Does anyone have this T.V. I am interested to see what people here think about it or any other Plasma in the same price range.

You've made some great decisions so far...

I have a 42PZ7OU - and I love it. My only regret is not going bigger.

Regardless of viewing distance, I would not have been happy with a 720p TV. If you don't feel that you'd benefit from a 1080p set then you have picked out a great TV.

Sure, if you say so. I'm not trying to say LCD is better then plasma or anything but i can't stand when people think that what they own is the best that's out without comparing it in person with another product. See, when i shopped for my tv i played with the 80U and 85U for a for a couple hours and had the store hook it up to a bluray player and it wasn't my cup of tea. On the other hand i thought the 800U looked better and had more accurate colors then any lcd on the floor, and the pioneers indeed blew all LCD's away.

Your wife's, too.

To the OP: If the set looks good to you, at your viewing distance, then you've picked a good one. I've got both 42" and 58" 768p Pany sets, and am very happy with the picture quality of both (and an older 42" 480p set in the BR). Price at the time of purchase was the deciding factor for me, as comparable 1080p sets were nearly double the price. If I were doing it today, I'd go 1080p on a 42" or 50" Pany. The price differential is not that much anymore.

Good luck with your purchase!

I do have a question though. How come on plasmas a 720p only has a resolution of 1024x768. I would be watching it from a distance of 11 feet most of the time so 720p should be what I need. However, I will spend much time looking at everything, but, because I watch in a very dark environment I would really benefit from the black levels of plasma.

How much are you looking to spend?

The 42px80u is about 900 at Circuit City or under 800 online while the 1080p 42pz80u can be had for under 1000.

No. Check the specs. The 720p plasmas are only 1024x768.

We're both right.

Sorry, I was quoting the resolution of my 58" set. I just assumed they were all the same, but just checked my 42" set and it's 1024 x 768. Learn something new every day.

Notice "piece" is spelled correctly now.
