I Love Both 1931 and 1941 versions. I have both on Digital SD. Also Love the 2 Hammer Films ..The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll and Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde. : )

I was just about to post the same thing. The full version with the complete montages and some other bits somehow got released in Germany and is still shown on TV there. I hope that somebody at Warner Archive knows about this and is willing to search for a print.

I like this version almost as much as the 1931 one.

This is an intelligent and fairly original interpretation of the story, very humanistic, and
superbly directed by Victor Fleming. Tracy surprised me; he pulls it off 100%. Whoever
had the bright idea of casting him against type knew what he was doing because Tracy
delivers. Look forward to this release.

Joseph Ruttenberg's cinematography and the optical work in the Freudian dream sequences are first rate, as is Franz Waxman's pulsating score. And the film is flawlessly cast as well, right down to the bit players; for instance, Brandon Hurst, who was in the 1920 John Barrymore version, plays a butler in this one.

...interestingly in his Spencer Tracy biography Larry Swindell writes that Frederic March , who famously interpreted the part in 1931 , said the following about Tracy's interpretation :

...'' i thought Spence did a fine job , as he always does...His Jekyll and Hyde weren't anything like mine , but why should they be ? After all , we're two different actors , aren't we ?..Spence would never look at a performance and try to copy it..''

..personally am looking forward to purchasing both the 1931 and 1941 versions on blu-ray...
