Default 3000:1 contrast ratio sufficent?

Okay so I am getting a new PC and it will have a Blu Ray drive. I'm wondering if my monitors contrast ratio is good enough to take advantage of Blu Rays quality. Here are the specs: 24" widescreen 16:10, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 1920x1200

I don't see anything there that would be a problem.

That's about as good as you get on a LCD.

unless you use an HDTV as your computer monitor...my 32" Samsung in my bedroom that I also use as a computer monitor is 10,000:1...

Yeah, but those are dynamic contrast ratios. The static contrast ratios for TVs advertising those type numbers are usually still between 1000-3000 : 1 for LCDs.

Even then, ansi contrast ratio measurement is more accurate than Static or Dynamic Imho. Dynamic is all marketing gimmick. Static is more accurate, and ansi even more.

So what would the actually CR be on a LCD claiming to have a 20,000:1 dynamic? just a guestimate.....

As stated earlier, around 1000-3000:1, which is why they market "Dynamic" so they can quote large numbers to confuse the masses.

See this link for more explanation.
