USA Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series November 9

I just got word that the BBC is poised to announce that "Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series" will hit Blu-ray and DVD on November 9 and that it will contain a truly tantalizing extra: two newly filmed sequences, both written by Steven Moffat and available only in this collection.

Doctor Who Fifth Series They are called "Meanwhile, in the TARDIS ... " and, as that title suggests, they are drop-in moments that show what happens between the episodes -- I suspect they're the comedy mortar between the story bricks, and with Moffat's wry sensibility and the daft charms of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, I'm guessing these interstitial escapades have a chance to be pretty entertaining.

Down at Comic-Con International on Thursday, there are two panels and a screening that should interest the Whovians, the big one being the 8 p.m. screening of the season's two-part finale. It's the U.S. premiere of the season's big finish, which met with strong reviews back in the U.K. when aired June 26.

Smith's first year in the TARDIS was a romp; the upgrades to the show in production values, the shake-up in the creative team and the deft casting of Smith and Gillan took the series onward and upward in a way I didn't think possible after David Tennant's departure from the lead role. If you missed it, the home-video release might be a, uh, timely way to jump on board with a show that looks to have bigger and better things ahead.

It will be region free, because all BBC/2 entertain releases are, but it won't be any cheaper. They're ridiculously priced over here, the DVD boxsets were all priced at an RRP of £70, which I don't know how that'd compare to $90, but it is stupidly expensive, so you'd be better off just geting the US copy.

That would be about $110 for us here, that is crazy. But then I remember paying the first season of Star Trek The Next Generation $130

I really hope it's not that expensive. I still don't own series 2-4 and really want to buy series 5 day 1 or close to it. I think it will be cheaper BBCA seems to be getting better at pricing things around $40 for a box set even though for 13 episodes that's still a lot.

Well I've just checked Amazon.com and the RRP is $80, but the pre-order price, I think, is $55. I hope this helps.

So if it's coming out in the US on 9th November, then I'd guess here in the UK it'd be out a couple of weeks earlier, on 25th October. Oh no, that's the same day as Alien, Back to the Future and season two of Star Wars:The Clone Wars, grr... that's extremely annoying. So it looks like I'll only be able to get Doctor Who and Alien, and ask the other two for Christmas, oh well.

Yeah Amy has become my favorite companion and this ranks as one of my favorite series behind series 2 I think.

For me it'd be really difficult to choose my favourite companion, because there have been so many over the past 47 years, but it'd still probably be Amy because she's very sassy, sexy and has red hair like me.

Yeah I have only watched the 10th Doctor and up so it's pretty easy for me. I have seen some of the old one's though but not enough to declare them my favorite companion.

Well it's understandable that you've only seen the show from David Tennant and onwards.

Yeah don't like the 9th Doctor for some reason. Just couldn't get into any of his stories but I think if I was to start an old series it would be the 5th Doctor I think.
