Default newbie help: blu ray dvd to Element plx-4202B

Hello,

I just got a dell laptop it has:

XPS M1530and#153;(PRODUCT) REDand#153;, Intel C2D T8300 (2.4GHz/800MHz FSB, 3M L2 Cache)
4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive for XPS M1530
Media Direct 3.5
2X BluRay Drive
Roxio Creator 10 Premiere Blu-Ray
Slot Load Blu-ray Disc (BD/DVD/CD read/write)
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy

-------------

Now, I would like to connect this to my Element plasma TV plx-4202B through the HDMI cable to watch Blu Ray DVD's, and have successfully once. Now I can't seem to do it.

Is there something I'm missing here? I don't understand HD technology very well, other than I know it looks better.

I appreciate any help and/or suggestions.

WW

Are you getting an error code or is the movie just not playing? If the latter what movie and what software are you using to play it on?

I was trying to play the Hulk (and I'm not even sure I really care to watch it.. I just want it to work).

I'm using Dell Media (or dell direct media)..

I'll have to see if there is an error code.. I've had multiple problems (freezes, error code, etc..)

I would assume it's a software issue as pc blu-ray playback is notoriously slow in updating for new titles. In this case the movie would not play, you could probably go to the menu but not start movie playback.

Choppy video is usually a result of cpu overload, so make sure that all other applications are turned off.

If you receive an error code referring to HDCP it's probably because of your display.

This is the odd thing.. I was able to play a bluray dvd on the display last week, but now I get the HDCP error for the Hulk dvd. Will I not be able to play any blu-ray discs on my TV lest I buy a stand along player now?

The television should be hdcp compliant as I couldn't find anything pointing to the contrary and it was only manufactured a year and half ago. I would contact dell and tell them that you are having issues with the hdmi output and they should be able to assist with resetting/updating the driver.

I just want to make sure that you are getting an error code saying that the display device is not hdcp compliant correct?

I'll have to check.. I did get an error code to that effect among other issues. It's never been the same problem, though..Needless to say, frustrating.

I will try when I get home from work and re-post any error messages I'm seeing.

Thanks!

It's probably an HDCP error but blu-ray playback from a pc on a plasma or LCD TV sucks. I'm running into problems now but I have an LG blu-ray player on my HTPC and I'm using PowerDVD ultra. Basically the problem is communications between the software DVD player and video drivers and the chain of connected components that need to be HDCP compliant. bottom line is that all these manufacturers and the drivers they use are not mature enough to make blu-ray and HD-dVD work consistantly. when you have a stand-alone player you don't have that problem because it's just the player and the tv but pc's have components that have to work independently like the video drivers, software dvd player, HDCP compliance throughout the link. i'm very fustrated.

Easy fix for your problem though. Buy AnyHDDVD. It costs like $40 bucks and runs as a resident program in your systray so when ever you insert an blu-ray movie it removes the encryption. You're player won't think the movie is protected and will just play it as a regular DVD. Should fix your problem but you shouldn't have to do that.
