Default Arcam BD now shipping!

Arcam's first ever Blu-Ray Disc player, the FMJ BDP-100 ($1,495), is now available at most, if not all, Arcam dealers in the U.S.
While I have yet to see this player in person, I have talked with an Arcam rep at American Audio and Video (Arcam's North American distributor), as well as my personal sales associate and Arcam dealer Mark.
Here's just a few tidbits about the Arcam:

* this player truly shines in all respects in terms of BD performance and DVD up-converting, whether it has been used on a JVC front projector with a Stewart screen, to a non-XBR Sony Bravia flat-panel.

* On the JVC/Stewart set-up, a gentleman brought in a heavily compressed DVD of a concert from which it's master source was a rather antiquated VHS tape. Yet the Arcam played back this heavily compressed DVD with unexpectedly good results -- this baby's DVD up-converter must be from another planet! Well, actually it is a Broadcom chip-set that appears to perform light-years better than even Anchor Bay or Marvell's best!

* In Mark's view of this Arcam -- only being about 50 hours burned-in -- the Arcam destroyed all of their Marantz BD players AND their universal players. It gets better: the Arcam can hold it's own with McIntosh's $8,000 MVP881. In fact, Mark describes the Arcam's and McIntosh's BD performance (particularly visually) as "peers".

I plan to evaluate the Arcam in either January or February, with a detailed review to follow.

It is going to be a fantastic player. I did see a article about it in one of the audio mags. " Highly anticipated ". I have owned Arcam gear in the past i have no doubts that it is going to be awsome

Too bad it doesn't play SACD. No way I will consider replacing my Oppo with Nuforce mod.
