![]() I've got a single chipper myself, and it is outstanding. PJ's and RPTV's, much like any display technology, have their plusses and minuses. In comparing the two, here are some that come to mind: PJ Pro's: The only affordable way to get big screen sizes (>100" diagonal). Provides a more "theatrical" experience. Can have outstanding picture quality. PJ Cons: Generally must have good light control. Setup a bit more complicated than a "TV". Gets dimmer over time, and need to replace bulbs from time to time. Frequent power on/off generally not good for the bulbs. Can be expensive depending on setup. RPTV (including DLP) Pro's: Easy to setup. Generally bright image, so can be used with ambient lighting. Relatively inexpensive. Can turn on/off pretty much with impunity. RPTV Cons: Also need to replace bulbs from time to time, but less so than projectors (I had one bulb on the DLP RPTV last over 4000 hours). Smaller screen sizes available. Overall, the big benefit to a projector is a screen size, which cannot be overstated. I made the switch to a projector in my home theater earlier this year, and I will never go back to a direct view or RPTV unless they become affordable with excellent image quality in >10' wide screen sizes. Even then, there's something uniquely theatrical about having a front projector throw an image onto a screen. |

The Epson Home Cinema 1080 UB is a great 1080p projector for the price. It also gets rated as one of the est budget 1080p projector. But let me tell you form experience, with its outstanding picture quality, you'd swear it cost 10x as much. It is a great projector!
