Default Digital Copy Discs - waste of time & money

Is anyone really that bothered about these digital copy discs

I for one would rather not have to pay more for a disc I am never going to use, to me if the film is that good I want to watch it on the largest screen with the best sound - and not while I am on the move!

i dont mind if they want to make two seperate versions, 1 with DC and 1 w/o DC.

but i certainly don't want to be forced into buying the DC, when i probably won't use it.

Same! I don't WANT to purchase a DC. If they have a version with/without, that'll work for me. But I don't want to purchase a blu-ray with a DC that is included in the price and one that I will never use.

I personally cannot watch a movie on a small device with a small screen or on my computer. I need a comfortable sofa, loud sound and a BIG HDTV!!!!

With this logic, why don't they strip movies of all extras since I won't be watching them? I think as long as the movie price isn't being inflated, then why not. I personally like the option of being able to watch a movie on my iPhone in flight....

I never use the digital copy, but I don't mind as long as it doesn't add to the price of the disc.

Well, no one is forcing you to watch digital copy on your FIRST viewing. You can save it for later use. Anyone who owns a nice portable device (iphone, ipod touch..etc) should spend a little more, and go for higher capacity so you can put up a bunch of digital copies. They're really useful for people who travel a lot (I'm one of them).

Anyway, I don't think digital copies are effecting cost of Blu-rays especially if you purchase online. Look at The Dark Knight pre-order. $25 is the best it can get I think. Every other release I've seen had a fair price, just like Blu-rays with no DC.

I am loving DC so far because I don't have to pay freakin' iTunes $10 or $15 for movie purchase anymore. These extra discs add $3 at most to total cost. Better than any online movie service..

I have one disc so far with digital copy.

I haven't bothered to download it.... Feel like I'm neglecting it,... But,.. Why would I want the digital copy of a movie I already have on Blu Ray?

Given that I may only watch the film 4 to 10 more times in my life... why wouldn't I just watch the Blu Ray version of it instead of the digital copy crap.

Someone is banking on the fact that people don't give a damn about quality and with the popularity of ipod, mp3, and postage stamp sized LCD Video screens... I would say that made a safe bet.

-Brian

p.s. Maybe I'll change my mind about this in time and I'll want postage stamp versions of movies or even better the 5 second versions of movies on youtube like this 5 second version of Rocky.

The digital copy can be nice if you travel and want a few flicks to watch on the plane or in the hotel. It works well on a laptop or iPod. And it beats having to rip it, convert it, etc.

I personally don't see any price differences between movies with digital copies.
Example of Amazon prices with opposite of complaint -
Dark Knight with digital copy: $24.95
Iron Man (no digital copy): $25.95

Two things....
1. I have not seen a price difference in the release of a movie w/ DC and one with not. At least not yet.
2. Perhaps the people here who don't have any required travel with there jobs don't get it, and that's fine, but I promise you that on a 2+ hour flight or some hotel room, having a movie on my iPhone or wide screen laptop is pretty handy. I have three on there and all i need is a set of headphones. I can always watch it on my big ass HDTV and Bose when im home. But on a plane or hotel, I have no-desire to try to get my PS3 through airport security. But then again, that's coming from someone w/ 116,100 Hilton Points and about 90,000 Sheratan points!

I have been selling my digital copies on Ebay so far - they do go very cheaply but at least it brings back in some of the outlay I made originally.

In the UK they are only just coming out, but so many Blu Rays that I have imported now come with them.

I want Blu Ray to do well, but the distributors have to help out with pricing. Knowing how UK prices are a rip off, I know this will be used to up the price of the Blu Rays which are already priced out of most peoples reach and therefore it gives the buying public a easier choice to stick with standard DVDs.

Just wait... in the near future, there will be an easy way to rip BDs, and hard drive space will be plentiful enough to store them.

I need a couple movies to watch Wednesday because I've got a 2 hour ride each way to a seminar but I'm just going to convert some regular dvds to my ipod touch and watch those. I like having the option of a digital copy, but I'd rather watch a movie that I can't watch on blu-ray.

I luv the digital copies and think they are a great idea. Being in the military, and doing a lot of traveling I find them extremely convient. We don't have any blu ray players onboard my ship, and I damn sure am not bringing my PS3, so digital copies are the way to go. I often find myself watching movies on my psp, mp3 player or laptop.
Plus with digital copies as a marketing scheme it will help bring blu rays to the mainstream. There currently is no affordable way of watching your blus while on the go, and that is one of the major draw backs of upgrading for most folks. With digital copies included, that concern can be lifted

Talking to my friend the other day about sleeping beauty and how we were both getting it for our own kids, she getting the DVD, me the Blu-ray.

As soon as i checked and saw that the Blu had a DVD copy she was all over it, she'd rather buy the Blu cause her kids can enjoy it now and when they finally can afford a BD player they'll have a BD copy.

So i suppose it does have some good points.

I think there are more people that hate the fact that while they have their DVD or Blu-Ray movie purchased for $15-30, that they have to buy it yet again for about $14.99 from iTunes so they can get it on their iPod. This is a great business move, especially with iPod being such a big brand. Associating the great name of iPod along with Blu-Ray only helps Blu-Ray grow even bigger than it is now.

I love digital copys, now if they offer two different versions I will get the cheapest version, but if the digital copy is free (as there is only one version and it comes with a digital copy) I really like it, I don't travel a ton, but I'm usually on a plane about every 4 months for what ever reason, and it's really nice to be able to watch a movie on a plane.
