These titles are 'equaling' The Fifth Element picture quality score.

Kinda sad to see where the bar moved to for HD DVD, when the BD went the other way...!

It's the same situation in reverse

Uni is trying to flood the market with their catalog titles to deliver on their "100 titles this year" promise. So they're running them through as fast as possible with existing masters rather than evaluating on a case by case basis and doing lots of passes

Since these are likely to be recycled for BR, this isn't good for anyone

I'm praying Last Starfighter doesn't suck

Exactly. The specific complaints against TFE were justified. We're paying the premium for quality to be a the primary thing the studio concentrates on. And Sony and Disney have listened and responded incredibly in both PQ and AQ.

Paramount gets good marks for their PQ, but still needs to work on the AQ. Warner needs to work on both.

At the end of 2006 when Universal went on hiatus, I was expecting this flood to be dramatic. After all, they had six months to prepare it.

Yes I agree with you totally,I like always to hear the truth and accept it.Paramount are doing Great titles except for their SQ need a push to contain at Least PCM.Warner if could begins releasing AVC higher bit rate Codec like others in Blu-ray Side. But Warner lately BD contains DolbyTHD or PCM are Great and hopefully continue this Procedure.

I don't think I've ever coined a term before. Well, none that took off anyway.

Good work Jeff.

Due to the lack of quality releases, I don't think Universal flooding the market with title will make any changes in the weekly sales trends. Catalog titles don't sell well as is, and they are releasing sub-par titles with bad encodes. One has to hope that they aren't trying to sabotage HD-DVD at this point.

It's been mismanaged from the beginning - why change now?

Sneakers was kinda like Ocean's 11 in that it's a bunch of stars having fun

Robert Redford
Ben Kingsley
Sydney Poitier
River Phoenix
Dan Ackyroyd

And a whole ton of others. It's a perennial best seller, and absolutely a title anyone in their right mind at marketing would have on the A list for catalog

If by that you mean that catalog doesn't move the numbers new releases do, that's accurate, however catalog is the backbone of the entire business. It's those top 2-300 or so titles per studio that move week in, week out at a steady pace that give you reliable, predictable income. Catalog titles are also important because they're essentially pure gravy. Once you pay off your mastering costs, you're basically just cashing a check, and repressing when needed.
