Default Better, why do you buy everything question

There seem to be a lot of people here who have massive collections, and a good number of those people have several movies in their collection that have never been opened.

To be fair, I have a small collection (~40) and 3 have never been opened. I dont know why I do it either, so this is not a flame. (Maybe I do it because a deal is too good to pass up, but i dont get around to watching it?)

Sleeping Chicky is a fine movie for a collection, but why do you buy movies just to have them?

It also seems like there are a odd number of people with 100+ movies who, one day, suddenly get rid of them all. That also seems like a crazy waste of money...

Anyway, these people have collectively bought enough BDs to help out the industry a lot, so again, no flame. I also have DVD's that are 4 or 5 years old that have never been opened... I dunno why I bought it. Seemed like a good buy at the time.

I have watched all the movies in my collection and most more than once.

Why are people concerned about what other people buy?

Where did you get this information? And, even if it's true, why do you care? Many people collect postage stamps they will never mail... But,.. I don't care. Be happy if you find something you like to buy and have the money to buy it.

Sometimes i'll rent a movie and if i like it, i'll go buy it right away. Since i've just watched it, I might not open it up till i watch it the next time, which could be months away. Other than that, I usually open them up right away. There's only so much time in the day, so maybe most people wait till they're actually getting ready to watch the BD before they open them up. With all the releases coming out it's not too far-fetched to think that people don't always have time to watch the stuff they're buying.

I buy everything and make a copy of it. Then I throw the purchased copy in the trash and keep the receipt next to the bootleg. This way I can't get in trouble with the law, and my friends can think I'm a cool pirate.

Actually, no. I rent mostly, and buy some.

That can be said for anything someone owns that has worth.

Sometimes people need quick money for whatever reason (layoff from work, medical expenses, etc.)

I've Got 74 Titles in My collection, no disrespect to anybody else, but I only but the Movies that I want, not what just comes out. For EI, Constantine and American Gangster come out on blu today, the Misses is going to get me Constantine Next week, but Im going to pass American Gangster on Blu. I already have the 2 Disc Collectors DVD, I don't see much sense for me to waste money. I actually rented Speed Racer before I bought It, I really believe that the Movie is Eye Candy? Im suprised no one is talking about its PQ, yeah the Movie Sucked, but PQ was amazing. So I guess you can also bring that subject up then? How many people buy Blu's based on PQ other than the fact if it was a good Movie or not. My experience with that (blind buy), was all this hooplah about Beowulf, yeah it looked nice, but the movie was wierd, to me...Don't want to disrespect anyone, but its just an opinion. So many Titles came out the last 2 months,
  1. Iron Man
  2. The Incredible Hulk
  3. Daredevil
  4. American Gangster
  5. Constantine
  6. The Godfather Collection
  7. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
  8. Speed Racer
  9. etc

but not all of them are worthy, if you want to say it that way. LOL, have fun!

i would say everyone is different and they all have different schedules. i personally have 380ish movies. maybe 2 are unopened (they are both my wife's & i've tried to sell them more than once). every movie i own i've seen @ least 3x.

to me, why spend the money if u're not gonna enjoy what u bought?? but again, everyone has a life, mine involves 2 kids under 2 1/2 years old, me & my wife don't get to leave much so we sit home & watch movies rather than go out.

Who says anyone's buying movies just because they come out? Granted, on average most people might buy one or two like that, but I know I love almost all my 50 Blu-rays.

best post of the day!

I have quite a few unopened blu's in my collection, I have a habit of collecting stuff, and I do have a collection of stamps that have never been used

also I have a collection of unopened coke cans/bottles and unopened hotwheels and never circulated coins. People like to collect stuff, it's what we do

Maybe they're marketing people trying to figure out what drives early adopters to purchase/not to purchase. If not, I don't understand the obsession either.

I have a collection of about 4000 films. A lot of the DVDs I have obtained during the years are classic European cinema, as well as contemporary, which I treasure. I cannot speak on behalf of everyone else but as far as I am concerned cinema has always been a form of education for me which I find to be invaluable. It is also deeply rooted in my past so it certainly has a sentimetal value for me as well.

I'd rather spend 30-35$ on a greatly restored Renoir print than have a Macallan on rocks.

Mmmm Macallan on the Rocks... and to be fair, they are $35-$45 a bottle depending where you buy the 12-year...

I buy movies so that once a month someone will post on this board that I am wasting my money because
a) I like movies that they don't
2) I'm excited that a movie I am looking forward to comes out so I preorder it
taco) So that those who are judgemental have someone to complain about and i secretly enjoy having said people judge me

Come on....

I was silently judging you for a while, but... now I'm really judging you because #3 is taco for you. That makes me jealous and I can't help but think our tastes in movies differs.

Who says people with large collections don't want the movies they buy. Maybe I should only buy the movies you like
