Thanks in advance to those that reply to this thread!
![]() When it gets to the top menu to play the options to play the movie (I have tried two Blu-ray DVD's and both have resulted in the same thing), I am unable to click actively on any of the options. It seems logically to me that it is un update issue and I have tried that with the PowerDVD program, but that didn't seem to cure it...should I try to upgrade to the PowerDVD 8 version???) Or is this a firmware issue? If so, if anyone has encoutered this before, where can i find firmware for a blu-ray player for a laptop? I have tried to find it on the hp site, but to no avail...looking for any help! Thanks again in advance! |

DK's keyboard solution is actually one correct solution - it just doesn't explain why you can't select certain options on BD menus. You obviously haven't been to the HP Support page for your system or you would've seen the solution / explanation. This is actually very common on HP systems with BD's using QuickPlay. The reason that some menu options aren't available during BD playback on HP Pavilions (usually the advanced menu buttons - Play and Stop are usually available) is because they're intentionally designed that way. Stupid? You'll get no argument from me. The reason they're designed like that is that engineers assumed that the user is going to be using either the keyboard or a remote control (some Pavilions like my HDX have dockable remote control pads) to control menu functions and BD playback like a normal console BD player. A user would NEVER want to use the TouchPad or mouse for menu control, right?? ![]() You might run into other BD playback issues, but if you keep QP updated you can avoid most. Update Quickplay (not Power DVD - the Pavilion uses QP for BD playback, and is a customized version of Power DVD) either from your system support site or within QuickPlay itself. Inside QuickPlay, click on the gear in the upper right corner (Settings icon) then click on Update. Current version is 3.7. One other problem you might encounter is if you try to play back BD's to an external display while your system is in a multi-display setup configuration. Usually what happens is that the BD will start, then stop a few seconds later with a Content Protection message. This is due to the fact that HDCP won't allow you to play back BD's while 2 displays are being used, the theory being that anyone pirating the content would be using at least 2 displays. All you have to do is set your display so that the external is the primary display. For external audio, even using HDMI-HDMI to an external, you have to redirect your Sound to the external display. The Pavilion's default setting is for the internal speakers - to redirect, open the Sound window from your Control Panel, select the HDMI setting (or SPDIF, whichever one you have showing) and then click on the Default button. This will set the default sound output to the HDMI cable, sending it to the external monitor. (for those that don't think SPDIF makes sense, that's what you use for a Pavilion setting, regardless whether you're using HDMI or SPDIF out or not) To get to your actual HP system support page, go to HP's Customer Care link http://tinyurl.com/4bwrat), then enter the HP Product # (Product, NOT Model # - the Product # usually has an ABA or something similar at the end) in the Product field. If you enter just the model # you can get a series list of Pavilions - the Product # takes you to the actual system page for your configuration. If you want to view the HP Bulletin on HP system BD playback issues, go to this URL: http://tinyurl.com/4zcvfl If you want to get more specific info on your system, you can join us at the Notebook Review site: http://tinyurl.com/3yp975 |

Hi;
I have read the posts where some of you have been successful in watching blu ray discs on a main tv screen. I need help also but have been unsuccessful thus far. I have an HP-dv5-1007cl running Windows 64bit vista with an intel GMA Mobile 4 series Express Chipset Family video card. It has an HDMI output and the BD player is built in. I still keep getting the copy protection error when I try running in on my panasonic 1080i TH-42PX500U plasma tv. I selected "Intel Dual Display clone" on the driver software and made my digital television my primary device. I also went into windows mobility center and chose to extend my desktop to both screens. However, I still get the error message and cannot view BDs. I can do it perfectly fine on the laptop. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? |

You cannot playback BD's in a cloned (Dual Display) configuration - you have to set your external display as the primary desktop and run the BD in that configuration. That's why you're getting the error - because you're in Dual Display mode. The theory is that whoever might pirate BD content is going to likely use at least 2 monitors, hence when the BD detects a dual display configuration, the Content Protection shuts down the playback after a few seconds running. Setup your external like I indicated, then run it again and you shouldn't have any more problems. Remember also, as I indicated above post, when using HDMI-HDMI to your external, you need to open up your Sound options and switch the default from Speakers/Headset to HDMI or SPDIF or the audio will come out of your notebook speakers. Changing the default to HDMI or SPDIF redirects the audio to the external display. |

So I not only have tried dual display mode (which was indicated by another user to have worked in another post on this forum), I have also set my intel GMA adapter driver program so that my external display (my "digital television") is the primary display, both in modes where it is the single display option (no picture on my laptop) as well as in dual and mirror modes. I have even rebooted after setting these options and when I try loading the BD via quickplay 3.7, it gives me the error.
I am running the resolution at 1280 by 700 or 720 and even put it up to the max, which was somethig like 1400 x something and that didn't give me any luck either. I'm thinking either 1. I am misunderstanding how to correctly set the external display as the primary display (meaning I should be doing it somewhere else) or 2. Everyone who has had this problem did not have an intel GMA graphics card, most if not all have had NVIDIA and setting it through with Intel's GMA is different or not possible? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks. |
