Unhappy Throwing out my MAXIM collection!

My girl called me out to the garage today to deliver the news. BABE, do you really need to keep these? OR can you get rid of them? {HINT, HINT} Of course she used her sweet sexy voice with a hand on her hip and her hair nicely arranged and scooped gently over her right ear. "Yeah..I guess your right. I'll take care of it" The second the words left my mouth I regretted it. I've collected MAXIM for years and I have every issue ever. And now as I sit here I can glance down into my yard and see them sitting all by their lonesome in 5 cardboard boxes. But hey, I have never reread them although I did sit out by the garbage tonight for about an hour combing through them getting a laugh here and there. Should I save my MAXIMs from DOOM? My chcik is cool and she'd be OK with it, but really - I think psychologically I'm giving up a part of my GUYDOM..IS there such a word? Anyway has anyone else had trouble getting rid of a collection? I'm getting married in APRIL...so I wonder whats next...no not my BUM shirt from my high school days...

LOL. I actually did this two weeks ago , thought not for the same reason as you. I just didn't have the room for it anymore and I never went back and read them. I had 3 years worth basically. I gave it to a buddy of mine but not sure if he's going to keep them or not. Everyone says that once you sign that paper saying your married... everything goes loco

You are of course losing your "guydom" but it's not that big a deal , like you said, you didn't re-read them. It's when the blu-rays , flat screen tv, and lounger chair get requested out that there is a problem!! All about compromise , just make sure the compromise is mutual and you'll be fine

Tell her off... with your fists.

I say you move on though... don't throw them out though... trade them in the trading forums! Trade your huge maxim collection to one of our teenage members who could use the entertainment lol.

OP: First find out what's really going to be thrown out IF you throw out your Maxims. Then BEFORE you throw it out, TELL her what that something means, even if it means nothing.

Seriously, until she is your wife or girlfriend for a decade, throwing away something you've collected for years needs a considered decision.

Speaking as someone married for going on 22 years, you’ll have your ups & downs, but in time you’ll come to appreciate the love of a good woman. Someone willing to stick by your side through the roughest of times is worth a collection of magazines.

Why can't you have both? Seriously though, they're good for a few laughs and learning some useful, but mostly useless, knowledge.

Roland.... I've been there, my friend. I've been married for just over 2 years now, and the pitching of my Maxim collection (though it was my decision, I keep telling myself) didn't cause our relationship to "turn a corner" to me, so to speak. However, that small step goes a long way to her. If you pitch them without a fight, I'm sure you'll get a good "thanking" from her.

GOSH, I'm not that superficial EGGY...well maybe if we broke up in the future then I'd have to say: "FYOU and This is the very reason I should have kept my MAXIM collection."

been hitched 6 yrs and they will wittle away your old clothes, furniture, pretty much anything they do not like - which is everything from when you were single

And yes, I'm happily married, but just a warning of things to come

he speaks the truth. the only things i have left from when i was single are my movie collection and the legos i held onto from when i was little. everything else is gone. just think about what u're getting from her, if it makes her happy and it's not a big deal to you, i'd say make her happy and then u'll be happy!!!

the secret of marriage right there my friend.

If you're going to get rid of them at least dump them on ebay. The earlier editions can get some cash.

Oh, I didn't mean it as you being superficial. I just meant that while it wasn't a great emotional hurdle to overcome for me, it turned out pretty well so far.

I'm just going to shut up as I think I'm just digging a deeper hold for myself!!!
