Polyphony Digital and BBC Worldwide to collaborate on best-selling racing game series Gran Turismo®

Top Gear to provide content for download via GT TV™

Tokyo, October 24 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) and Polyphony Digital, Inc., the creators of the best-selling racing franchise, Gran Turismo®, today announced a collaboration with BBC Worldwide that will allow BBC’s Top Gear programme to be downloaded through Gran Turismo TV (GT TV™) on PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™).

GT TV, a dedicated online channel packed with the latest news and content from the motoring world, will launch worldwide on PLAYSTATION®Network in 2008. BBC Worldwide will provide 40 episodes of Top Gear, the award-winning BBC television series about motoring for download.

In addition, the Top Gear Test Track – the track featured each week on the show, where host Jeremy Clarkson and the Top Gear team test the latest cars – will be replicated in Gran Turismo 5 (GT5) on PS3. For the first time in a racing game, players will be able to burn rubber and experience every white knuckle, hairpin turn on the Top Gear Test Track for themselves.

How about a "must kill" game? Meaning...may God help anyone that stands between me and this game.

Seriously, this game is over-the-top! I think I'm gonna build a mini car frame to put a gaming wheel and pedals in. Then, I'm gonna set it up 2 feet from the TV in my sig line...dead center.

If this is true this is fantastic news! It's no secret that Clarkson is an avid GT fan - he even replicated a timed lap from GT4 on the real life track using the same car he uses in the game. He was quicker in the game!

The Topr Gear test track in the game is awesome. It just puts it that much over the top. I watch it every monday.

Awesome. Its a great show, sometimes the America bashing gets annoying but it's alright. Can't wait.

I think that just pushed me off the fence...I wasn't really sure about purchasing this game, despite the fact that it's going to be gorgeous. I've always sucked at GT games, lol...so...hesitant in buying a game I would get frustrated with.

But if I can get top gear with it? Hell YES

Course the question is...will the downloads be available in the US? Or only Europe

This is absolutely massive for Sony! Shame the game won't be out for a while, but when it hits the shelves...

It's content like this that will sell the game and the PS3 to a new audience of petrol heads. People will buy this just to get the Top Gear show and race around the track. Hopefully we'll get some coverage on the show itself soon.

Well done Sony and BBC, whoever sealed this deal deserves a bonus!

It's probably worth mentioning that Top Gear isn't recorded in HD yet so all clips will probably be PAL resolution at most.

With the indash driving feature, I like to drive as any of the guys of Top Gear, especially the Stig.
