Bear with me, and forgive my crappy drawing.

Is the closet your planning on using more like A or B? I'm getting ready to do the same thing, and mine is like A. What I'm planning to do is cut an opening through the wall where the red is and have my shelves for my equipment there. I'll probably box it it and have a removable back piece to fiddle with the wires. Then add some trim pieces around the opening in the wall and rewire all my speakers...AGAIN.

When I'm done, I'll put up some pics for you.

I like the way you think.

Thanks. I had laid out my theater room and was satisfied, for about a month. I've pretty much decided that I need a projector so that necessitated shifting a few things around. Hopefully, if things work out, I can start work on it in a week or so.

I have a media closet that is currently being finalized like Rob71's B. I had no "A" option.

Make sure you vent the hell out of it if it will be sealed. They make vents that fit in to the bottom of your door.

I also purchased computer fans that all attach to a single low voltage supply which gets connected to my receiver. So when my receiver turns on, so does my fans.

Than I had to get an IR repeater since the door is solid wood.

My shelves are all cut corner so i can run wires up and down between sources.

It houses:
Yamaha 130w x 7 receiver
PS3
HD-DVD player
Tivo S3
Cable modem
Wireless router
Switch
Wii
Denon CD Player

Here's my setup. I used a closet for my media center

There are a lot of photos of how I did this.

This is what I did with my theater in the basement...this closet was conveniently constructed by the previous owners, it's the area under the stairs. I installed one cabling pass through visible in the 2d pic, and I used the wire shelving for added cooling but have yet to come up with a good fan to cool things as it does get rather warm in there. I have a small 4" a/c fan in there but the thing is loud and kind of reverberats on the walls, far from being silent.

Room side of the wall, JBL Northridge E60's Front/Left/Center, TV is a Samsung HLS-5687W

Right Surround and LR and RR surrounds (JBL SP6II):

Left Surround, I didn't have much of an option besides a floor stand, and this works very well:
