Check the local pawnshops for the PS3 and keep an eye on ebay for local sellers.
The PS3 has a unique ID. Don't know if it matters. I wish someone would write a callback program for the PS3 that would send it's IP address at regular intervals to a predetermined location to make finding it as easy as a subpeona. |

That unique ID is called a MAC address. All networking products has it including the PS3! The MAC address is used for additional networking security measures along with the WEP or other encryption keys! I always utilize the MAC address supplementary security but other people don't bother using the MAC address because the WEP key or other encryption method is well secured. As for using the MAC address to locate your lost or stolen PS3, the MAC address won't be of any help! Sorry to dissapoint you but thats that!

Yeah.. You've gotta have some kind of serial number or MAC address for your PS3. You should be able to have Sony or someone trace it and find an IP or a store it was sold to, and get the persons information. Good luck.

Just make sure you file a police report and have them enter the PS3 serial number in the National System for stolen property. If someone tries to sell it in a pawn shop they have to run the serial number by law and they have to contact the local PD.

Well thanks stinks. I have an alarm on my house that has a loud horn plus calls my cell phone. I think most thieves flee from that. It cost me around $500 for all the wireless items but I don't pay monthly fees.

yea luckily i still have the receipt with the serial number of the ps3, and i also got the serial number from circuit city of the laptop.
so if it shows up at a pawn shop they will be able to trace it. also since i bought the ps3 on our best buy credit card, and we pay the extra $5 a month for stolen coverage, it automatically gets paid off. so i guess thats a good thing at least. now i just have to pay to get new front and back doors |
