Question Is "Predator" Really In 1080P??

Because really - I can't tell or do they just say that to make you want to buy it.

Yes although it's not the best example of HD it does 70% of the time offer a decent upgrade from the DVD. But there are no special features so if your fan of them keep your DVD for those.

Not one of the more impressive-looking BDs, I'm afraid. I never questioned the resolution, just a lot of distracting digital noise, like a swarm of static almost. I didn't think it was grain but if it is, this is a rare case where I didn't much care for it.

lions gate did a awesome job with Rambo 1-3 and those were made in the
80's so I was wondering why they couldn't do Predator as much justice as they did rambo

I'm kind of afraid for the inevitable Blu-ray release of Alien. I'm excited because I'd love to have it. But the amount of "WHAT'S WITH THE GRAIN?" threads are going to be hard to handle.

Different movies are filmed in different ways. Not all have a source thats even as good as the original 3 Rambo's.

The BD itself is 1080p. Although the picture is not that great. It was one of the earlier releases.
Predator 2 (UK) on the other hand is one of the best catalog Titles I have ever seen on Blu Ray. Quality Wise (BTW: The UK Version of Predator 2 is not area coded)

Predator was never a good looking movie. It's just the way it was made.

the colors man, check out the colors. The jungle looks fantastic! I'll agree the overall picture isn't top notch, but wow are the colors great...

i bought the full screen version of the dvd years ago so even if the PQ looks like a upconverted dvd its still better to have the BD of the movie, its a great movie so i see no need to complain.

PQ has little to do with resolution. By saying 1080p your just stating a resolution.

Predator was made in the jungle with handy cams and such. There was no electricity and little home comforts about. Although they had pretty good cameras, its not state of the art stuff that you would find in a studio.

Its obvious some of the footage is borrowed from other sources too. Like the landing.

I didn't upgrade to the Blu-ray version yet. It's a bare bones disc with only a moderate improvement in picture and sound. The two disc collector's edition DVD is still a superior disc until they release a proper Predator Blu-ray disc

+1. the jungle scenes are fantastic. this title will never be tier 0 or tier 1 material because the age and shape that the film is in. could Fox have cleaned it up more? yes. would it have looked a lot better? no. the blu-ray still looks twice as good as the dvd version so it's good enough for me.

I disagree, it's possible to make Predator look as good as Dirty Harry, in all it's grainy glory.

There's two reasons this BD is underwhelming, 1/ they used an old transfert which is probably from around 2001, so that's 8 years ago, and since then, Dataspirit and scanning technology have evolved as much as your computer have 2/ it's compressed with MPEG2 on a single layer disc.

Give me the original negative, and the budget to scan a new transfert with current machines, plus a dual layer disc, and I can assure you, the PQ and sound will blow your socks off ! Don't expect it to look like Patton thought (like it was shot on video), some of the shots are underexposed, just because they were shot that way, and there's not much one can do about that. It won't be perfect because of the limitations of the original film stock and photography, but at last it will be transparent to the negative, and have that HD pop we all know and love.

i agree it looks great. its in 1080p unless your set-up has issues.
Aliens should look great as well. the one 80s acton flick I was diapointed in the transfer for total recal I don't think lionsgate did it justice.

Daylight scenes are ok. Nighttime ones suffer from too much grain giving it an upconvert look. Color reproduction is excellent.

Side by side with the DVD, yes every shot has a clearly noticeable difference.
