Default Live and Let Die Issue?

Ok, I have never seen Live and Let Die in any of it's incarnations so I don't know if this is inherent to the source. I have the other Bond movies that came out this morning as well and this issue is not in any of them that I can hear. what happens is that when the vocals go up in range or "volume", basically when anyone raises their voice the voices start to "scratch". I thought it was my center channel at first going but I checked the other movies only Live and Let Die has this issue. I was wondering if anyone else had this issue or I had a bad disc or whether that was just inherent to the way it was recorded.

Definitely not how the audio was recorded. Rather, when it is mastered poorly this can be a problem. It's called audio clipping. One of the best examples of this is the Red Hot Chili Peppers' album Californication. The clipping is horrible on that album and it's because everything was mastered at way too high of a volume. I bought Live and Let Die this morning but I haven't watched it yet.

That's what I was wondering. None of the other Bond's had this issue. I just wanted to make sure someone else was hearing this too and it's not a defective disc ( I hate returning stuff)

I haven't watched it yet (watching Thunderball at the moment). I'll get back to you on this if I notice similar problems when I watch LALD.

OK, I'm watching it now and I'm not noticing any problems. My receiver is only DD5.1 and DTS so I'm not running DTS-MA.

Son a B1tch!! I changed my PS3 setting to Bitstream to the receiver so it would decode just the DTS track and Fine as can be!!! Yet when I switch it over to decode the DTS-HD MA track It sounds all scratchy and strained in the vocals.. Damn

Found the issue. My ps3 after updating to 2.50 firmware reset my "internal volume" control of my ps3 to +4. I changed it to normal and the clipping went away

Yeah, boosting audio volume in the player before it gets sent digitally to the receiver could absolutely cause clipping.

um. You can't bitstream frmo the ps3 to the reciever, it has to be decoded by the ps3. Unless update 2.5 changed that but i doubt it.

yeah, you can set it to bitstream but all it will send is the Core DTS track. That's what I did. I couldn't get lossless but seemed to clean the clipping up. However as I said before the issue was that my 'internal volume' was pushed too high and caused clipping. All happy now
