Default Need solid advice

Hey guys looking to ditch my samsung ht-bd1250 system and going to the reciever and speaker route. I been looking at reviews and sites and my brain is all fogged and unable to pick. I want a unit that will be trouble free and last few years. So iam kinda leaning towards the Onkyo TX-NR616. Any input or current owners please let me know your review or snags with it.

A budget will greatly help, you were looking at the ONkyo 616, it is in a certain price range but we do not know at what price you saw it, the budget will give us something to work with.

I s music important to you at all or just HT?

maybe i might just get this one but i as wondering is 80 watts good for a new model and it isnt thx certified so should that be a drawback or just a personal perefence.

How would you feel about a 717 refurb unit for 499?

http://www.accessories4less.com/make...eceiver/1.html

Itr's future proof if you ever want to add an external this one does it, It's onkyo refurb and a lot of members here have bought from this website. Maybe others can chime in with their experience.

THX certified isn't that important, it only means that if you use it with let's say THX certified speakers you should get results that are the THX recommended settings. Not having it in no way reflects the quality of a product

That is great advice for his price range, better receiver with more processing and leaves more for the speakers.

To the OP, what is your budget for speakers and setup? (5.1, 7.1?)

thanks guys for all the input. as for speakers i was thinking maybe 300 to 400 for 5.1 now then add on at later time to 7.1

How reliable are the refurb units? i know they come with the one year warranty but little hesitant on refurbs.
Amazon has the 717 for $554 new.

I bought a refurb Onkyo TX-NR1009 from A4L about 6 months ago. It has performed flawlessly. I would and will buy refurb from A4L again.

My guess is that a refurb will be just as if not more reliable than the "A" stock units. I would think they would have to go through stringent quality testing (even more so than"A" stock production line units) before getting the OK to ship

If you go up to your upper limit I know that this set is well reviewed

Energy 5.1 Take Classic

You can also get the Energy Take Classic 5 and add this sub which seems to be well liked in it's price range

The Energy set @ Newegg is a deal @$149. You'll need a sub.

Check out the Klipsch Synergy Sub-10 420W 10" Subwoofer Black
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882780012

This combo keeps you in budget. Check out Monoprice for all your wiring and cabling as well.

What is your review of the TL1900? Do you think they are better than Energy Take Classic 5.1?

I have the TL1600 for my upstairs system. It slightly edges out the mirage nanosat system which rates higher then the energy take classic 5.1. So the tl1900 will be exquisite.

I was working for a "major electronics" store and sold both systems. The Polk was always nicer sounding. Richer, cleaner comparitive to the energy system and slightly edges out the nanosat as i own the nanosats for surrounds in my theater downstairs.

Here is another source to back me up........http://home-audio.toptenreviews.com/...00-review.html

Now definitive techs 5 channel system is one of the best satelite systems i have heard to date.
