Default We need XMB editing/renaming facilities

I know its easy to put files on your PC, rename them and back onto the PS3. But it should be an easy fix for a F/W upgrade.

You didn't even say what you're trying to rename that the XMB doesn't already let you rename.

Lots of little things need improving on the xmb realy. Wish you could create custom folders too! i would love to be able to sort out my demos and psn games.

and they need to move that god damn controller charge icon out the way of the time when you press the PS button. thats just lazy of sony.

TRIANGLE button on the demo/PSN game > Information > Album

Name the album (in other words folder) to put it into.

Press SQUARE when viewing the XMB Game list to group content different ways, one of which is by Album. Give each demo the Album name 'Demos' and they'll go into the same folder.

Yea i have done this. But i would be so much better just to create your own folder, mark the files you want and move them to it.

Cheers anyway

It uses the social web2.0 ideology of tagging files to create virtual folders.

Its on the rave

Anything. I can't rename any file once its on the XMB. I have to put it on a stick and rename it on my PC and then copy it back to the XMB.

Like videos from my camera. They are labelled SS12345. Thats not descriptive to me. I want to label it myself without going through so many hoops.

Not being able to create subfolders within folders is an even bigger problem. You can only have one folder and then all the files within that folder are shown at once... for example, you cant have a Snoop Dogg folder, then his albums as their own folders with the tracks contained in those folders. I have over 100gb's of music on my PS3 and it is an absolute nightmare to navigate no matter what I do to organize it.

Please fix this Sony.

I don't mind the way it is right now. It remembers the Album names I use so it only takes like 3 seconds to assign it a folder I've already created.

But in general, yes, it would be nice to have some additional functionality. That wouldn't likely make things any worse afterall.

This creates another question can a hypervisor support subfolders?

They would either need to redevelop the tag system or maybe add a second tag... hmm dunno.

richieb1971, ive always been able to rename my files.

dunno why yours plots against you.

Yeah the only trick I found was to name my Folder first by name then by album... so it still pretty much easy to find everything... but I mostly use the remote media player with my computer so that way everythings is in the right folder!

If music is that Big a Deal, do What I do Artist Name-Album Name, For Example:

Madonna - Confessions on a Dance Floor
Madonna - Hard Candy
Winehouse, Amy - Back to Black
Winehouse, Amy - Frank

and Sometimes, I want it chronologically, so I do it this Way

Muse - 2003 Absolution
Muse - 2006 Black Holes and Revelations
Muse - 2008 H.A.A.R.P.

Those work alphabetically as well.... Damn.... These Don't!

No Doubt - 1995 Tragic Kingdom
No Doubt - 2001 Rock Steady

If you use an external and use the display all option as opposed to just clicking on the drive, it will respect the file structure. Ive put all 166gb's of my music on an external that came formatted as Fat32 out of the box, and it has it all broken down into folders and subfolders. The negative is that it wont work for background music in games that support it.
