I was on amazon.com yesterday shopping and i was looking to complete certain t.v. on dvd collections where im missing a season or so when i came across Quantum Leap .
Now for that show i only have season 1 but i was reading all the reviews and everyone is complaining that most of the music in most if not all has been taken out and replaced with different versions or muzak of the original artist!!! They also say this is the case on the American version not the UK. Well i guess i won't be buying the other 4 seasons. Im really shocked they would do this. If anyone ever watched Quantum Leap you know the music and songs were a big part of the show!!! Anyway my question is has anyone heard of this happening on other releases, t.v. or movies where crucial moments or songs, music is missing or different from the actually original broadcast or theatrical version. Now i know why they won't release They Wonder Years on dvd. P.S. I know this is a Blu-Ray site but im sure some of you have or still collect shows on dvd |

This happens to old movies too. The music licensing was for theatrical release only. When home video came along, they couldn't make the same deals, so substituted other music within the film.
The film "California Dreaming" (1979) is one example I have noticed. |

Not just old shows either. The recent release of the McG produced Fastlane from a few years back was butchered with all the music pulled out. I understand the idea that it's either release it with a different soundtrack or never release it, but it changes the flow and vibe of some shows beyond substantially.

In my world the sky is falling so watch your head!
I didn't know they did this to happy days thank god i didn't buy them. Does anyone think this is a total outrage like me and if anyone comes in here with some smart a__ed comments save your breath . If your a fan of movies or t.v. just imagine your favorite scene where the guy gets the girl or the scene was so touching or sad, happy whatever and a song was playing and you enjoyed it so much you know if it ever becomes available to own you get so excited you can't wait to rewatch it that when you do all the music is changed and different or scenes are missing how would you feel??? Does anyone know of more? I think the public needs to know so we are no buying something that is not what's advertised !!! If it says the complete 1st season it should be just that COMPLETE If the music is different it should says The 1st season with different music than the original uncut episodes !! I am fired up and you should be too Last edited by BLUE MYSTIC RAIN; 10-24-2008 at 12:23 AM. Reason: spelling |

They do this because people moan and complain about the cost of box sets. The Sopranos is a perfect example. David Chase uses incidental music throughout the series, not a single note of original score, and that makes them expensive.
But he'd never think of swapping in some low-grade nonsense for DVD or Blu release, and neither would HBO. Still...people complain. Can't please everybody, but I'm glad he chooses to leave the soundtracks untouched. I wouldn't buy otherwise. Last edited by J6P; 10-24-2008 at 01:00 AM. Reason: not <> note |

I have all 5 seasons on DVD and I used to watch the show religiously. Sure, the music is a little different, but the show itself is the most important aspect. Personally, I enjoyed the DVDs immensely when I got them despite the differene in soundtrack.

I think it sucks, but what can you do? If they coughed the money up for the music licensing, I'm sure the cost of the box sets would shoot through the roof and then people would complain about the cost.
My fav "old" tv show is The Partridge Family, so no worries there with the music, all original ![]() ![]() |

Yep, Wonder Years. Been waiting a long time for them to release that but doesn't look like its ever gonna happen, atleast not anytime soon. Sucks too because if they do release I'm sure there will be TONS of music missing and with Wonder Years the music really tied everything together, especially the era.
