Default What equpiment are you using?

I scanned through the HT forum here and couldn't find a thread that had everyones equipment listed in it. Most forums have a thread of this nature where people post what they have and post pics as well. This will allow people to see what others have and ask questions and get familiar with other types of equipment. Hopefully mods could make this a sticky.

Big or small, post those setups, don't be ashamed.

I'll start:

Living Room:
Samsung 50" DLP HL-S5087
Denon AVR-2307
Denon ASD-1R iPod Dock
Sony DVP-NS85C 5-Disc Upscaling DVD Player
Sony PS3 20GB (Upgraded to 100GB)
XBOX 360 Premium
Scientific Atlanta 8300HD Cable HD-DVR
Klipsch Synergy B-2 Fronts
Klipsch Synergy B-2 Rears
Klipsch Synergy C-1 Center
Klipsch Synergy Sub-10 Subwoofer
Monster Cables holding everything together
Monster HTS-1000 Power Conditioner

Bedroom:
Samsung 32" LCD LN-S3251
Onkyo HTR-530 Reciever
Apple Universal iPod Dock
Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray Player
Scientic Atlanta 3250HD Cable Box
Onkyo Speaker Package part of HTiB
Rocketfish Cables holding everything together
Monster HTS-1000 Power Conditioner
Harmony 880 Remote

Will post pics as soon as I can find my camera cable.

Mine is all in my sig. I have a dedicated 20'x25'x9' home theater that I am currently working on real time measurements for in order to fine tune my acoustic treatments. Like any hobby it's never "done" though so gear is subject to change.

Default ps3 as a blu ray player????

to anyone who has any advice, i hope this is the correct forum?

I know the ps3's blu ray player is a selling feature to some, I bought mine for metal gear solid! i have it in my head that you buy a dvd player to watch dvd's, you buy a game console to play games, here is my questions, if I use my ps3 to do both will i burn it out? is it really meant to do both? could it actually be a dvd player first? should i invest in the pioneer elite? is it silly to have two units that do the same thing? I would like any advice anyone has on this, i never used my ps2 as a dvd player but it may be time to change my line of thought.

thanks,

chris

Chris, the general consensus among reviewers and end-users alike is that the PS3 is a state-of-the-art DVD and blu-ray player, as good as or better than many high-end players. I think it is silly to have two units that do the same thing, although if you evaluate the Pioneer and find you prefer it to the PS3, I'd totally understand why you'd get it.

I am a firm believer in "separates", "simpler is better", and generally find that units trying to do too many things are jack of all trades, master of none. That said, I have an integrated amp and a PS3, and couldn't find separates that I prefer to those units.

Most people use receivers which are preamps, amps, switchers and tuners all in one. If you aren't bothered by that, I don't see why you'd be bothered by the PS3, which is just a game console and DVD player in one.

Default thanks for the ps3 advice gremal!

I understand what your saying, my denon 2807 is a decoder and amp in one box, but I was concerned about "over usage" and moving parts, bla, bla, bla for $699 I better damn well be able to watch movies and play motorstorm for 24 hrs if I want to. the ps3 has been reviewed quite well as a dvd player ( not to many of them out there) and your reply is very common among those who I have asked. I do not like the idea of having two players that do the same thing ( 1 execption, I have a pioneer from Hong Kong to play those region dvd's and my main yamaha for everyday use)

thanks for your help

chris

TV
JVC 56" (model: HD-56FN97) HD-ILA w/ HDMI 1.3

Receiver
Pioneer VSX-1016TXV-k (770-watt, THX certified)

Speakers
Klipsch Synergy II series all around, 5.1, soon will be upgrading to 7.1
Klipsch 10" 420-watt subwoofer

Media Playback
Motorola HD/DVR cable receiver (POS unit, I hate Comcast)
Xbox 360, for DVD playback, as well (it upconverts)
PS3

Cables
Acoustics Research HDMI
Monster for all else

I have the PS3 connected directly to the TV via HDMI, and via optical cable to the receiver. I have no video running to the receiver, since it's cheaper on my electric bill to watch regular TV w/out the receiver. I will probably upgrade the receiver once they come out w/ HDMI 1.3, so I can pump lossless audio through.

Hey, can anyone say this is bad for a Grad student in a big city? I make less than people on unemployment, seriously!
