Hey all,
We are working on a project and wanting to use a scene or two from the Young Frankenstein Blu-Ray movie; we also have the DVD version. We know that if the Blu-Ray movie was either remastered or taken from the 35mm version, then the resolution will be larger than the DVD version and thus the quality of the excerpt we take will look better. However, if it is just an upconverted copy of the digital take then we wouldn't gain anything. Does anyone know if it would be beneficial to work with the Blu-Ray copy opposed to the DVD copy? Thanks all. Note: This project is for observation purposes only. Last edited by zea; 10-28-2008 at 06:11 PM. Reason: Update Info. |

That's assuming he can. Not really sure what the OP is looking for, but if he's trying to rip segments of the movie from the disc then best of luck to him.

You might actually have a better chance at using a system that upconverts standard DVD's to HD resolutions rather than trying to do it with a BD version, as standard DVD players don't have the stringent copy protections that BD's do. What are you using for capture devices and do you really care about getting it at full HD, or are you happy with "close enough"? |

Thanks all for the replies. I'm impressed with the maturity on this forum.
We can use TV capture cards but due to on the fly encoding we thought there could be blips and frame losses. I was thinking to get an internal Blu-Ray player and taking the video off that way some how. What would be the best way and yes, being "close enough", if it is better than regular DVD, then that would be great. |

The resolution of movies like this one are much higher than DVD. You would benefit greatly from using the Blu-ray copy, as the image would have about 6 times the data than the DVD.
HOWEVER I don't know how you intend to work on it. DVDs are easy to hack and rip onto computers, Blu-ray are not so easy to rip. If you can work with it great! If not, stick with the DVD, it is much easier. Remember, you need a Blu-ray player (BD drive) in your computer to play the Blu-ray. |
