Default This is just ridiculous! SD Movies

So tonight is the first time i've watched a regular sd-dvd on my ps3 since I bought it (early september) and wow it just isn't the same, I've got a lot of sd dvds but I honestly feel the need to upgrade them now... Am I an oddball or have others ran into this too?

Happened to me as soon as I bought into Blu-ray and HDDVD (Yes, I had both). Even now when putting in what is considered a great SD transfer just looks crappy. The colors are muted and the pic is soft with artifacts. Can't wait until I can replace every dvd I have with Blu-ray. Cmon Star Wars saga!!

i recently played harry potter and the order of the phoenix on dvd and was blown away. it was really good. i'm sure it will be even better on blu-ray, but the dvd will do me fine for the time being. i really am digging blu-ray and all, but i don't hate dvd's either.

i personally don't see a need to replace all 350+ standard dvd's that i own. only the ones that will look phenominal in blu that i haven't already or can't just yet b/c they aren't available on blu.

i can get past the "sub-par" picture of the standard dvd's and enjoy the movies all the same.

Most of my DVD's won't get upgraded. Up-conversion will never look better than a well done blu-ray. But is it good enough? For me, most of the time yes it is. Especially some of the older movies from the 60's / 70's I have, it's good enough if the DVD was mastered properly.

The only blind upgrading I'll do is the classic disney animation movies that I have on DVD, I'll be buying those in blu, afraid of the vault

If you would have asked me if I were going to obtain as many DVDs as I have thus far, I wouldn't have thought so..... for this reason, I can't say I'll "Never" upgrade everything I have on DVD to Blu-ray..... it depends how long Blu-ray stays relevent...... Then again, I still find DVD's resolution quite good, but yes.... Blu-ray has the potential to blow it out of the water (and most of the time it does, minus the occassional crappy transfer)

DVD still looks good to me, but there is still a HUGE difference in PQ, and more importantly audio-quality, so I plan on upgrading whatever I can......

I have 60 Blu-rays maybe.... and out of those, 35-40 are titles I already owned on DVD ..... everyone of them has been a good upgrade to me.

This happened to me as well. I didn't realize how great the picture truly was until I had to sit through a DVD. If you want to be REALLY shocked, try renting a movie on Comcast..

I bought a Panasonic VHS / DVD upconverter combo a few months ago to help me tolerate DVD's better. Only bought The Black Hole on DVD in the 14 months since I bought blu-ray.

All my DVD's double dipped to blu sit in a box. Along with the titles I just don't want any more. I'll bring the box to work around Thanksgiving to sell them for 5 bucks each. I'll keep a few of the favorite movies on DVD for my portable player.

To think I thought I was smart for buying all my DVD's in widescreen because I KNEW one day I would have a widescreen HDTV.
