Default Onkyo 606 0r Yahama rxv663

If I can get them at comparable prices, which is a better receiver. I don't need more than two HDMI connections.

Yamaha RX-V663. This is pure opinion. I have no facts to back up my claims. Any statements preceding should not be taken as binding. JJ reserves the right to delete this post. APR financing is 0.9% for those with approved credit. Tax and title not included.

i love my onkyo 605, the only difference between the 605 and the 606 is the amount of HDMI ports! My friend has the yamaha and it also sounds great. I would say they are both comparable, so it is just a matter of whether you want to give Onkyo or Yamaha your $$$$ they will both sound awesome!

You may want to compare the receivers with the same speakers you want. Both of these receivers are very comparable, but the sound is slightly different from each. I find that the Yamaha runs out of juice at higher volumes. On the other hand the Yamaha's sound is a little more neutral which you may prefer over Onkyo's slightly warmer, but more aggressive sound. I think the Yamaha is the better choice for music, but the Onkyo wins for home theater, so its a toss up. The choice of speakers may sway you one way or the other. Bright speakers like Klipsch may be more suited for the Onkyo since it will add a bit of warmness to them, but warmer speakers may give you a better sound with the Yamaha. I personally own an Onkyo, but I think you would be happy with either. I'd say test them both out and make the decision based on your ears and the price. Again, make sure you test them both with the speakers you plan to get. There's no wrong decision so long as you're happy with the one you go with.

Here we go again, someones saying Onkyo better for theater ,Yamaha better for music it's all bla bla bla.(its so scripted that its sad)
Yamaha is amazing for theater and amazing for Music. At Least mine is!

Yamaha runs out of juice at high levels,What?
What reciever are you talking about ?
Is this Yamaha in general ?
What yamaha reciever have you owned ?I just want to know so i can tell people not to buy it

Oh i get it your a owner of Onkyo,it all makes sense now Come on Brother

Onkyo wins for Theater. O.K.

Were on a blu-ray forum and thats how you describe Yamaha. You obv you don't know Yamaha.I know your just repeating something you read somewhere else

Johnnymay take the advise over me ,as a grain of salt.

There both great recievers my friend you really have to go and do some sound checks for yourself.Don't let someone tell you whats there truth.

I wish i could give you my opinion on Onkyo,But Ive never had one in my set up,But i do know Yamaha.

Good luck to you my friend, your on the right path

Thanks for the advice. I have been trying to go out and hear as much as I could. I still haven't found a place where both can be compared at the same time. I'm not an expert at this stuff by any means, that's why I'm looking for as much advice as possible. I'm looking for quality for a good price. Trying to have my cake and eat it too.

Yeah, they're both great receivers. One thing is for sure... either way you go, it's not a mistake.

I know how difficult it can be trying to make sure you get the right reciever for yourself. It can get overhelming to the point it can drive you crazy.
Really the only advise i can give you is have fun.Getting a new reciever is a great experience.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again. When i turn on my system today i get this great feeling,I love it.
Iam happy with the decisions i made and i hope you get that same feeling with any choices you make.

Prerich ,i totaly agree, but i think theres two many people that talk about the receiver they have in there system then bring false facts on another reciever that they have never had in there system. You know what i mean.

Iam hereing the same thing over and over again like its some script out of a movie.Come on

Thats why i never give my oppion on Onkyo. But i know yammy.Iam just keeping the play ground fair,

Runs out of jucie at high levels Whats that all about.Ofcourse iam going to comment about that

Now that both receivers have had time to be in the market and the dust to settle, either machine would be a good buy. I prefer Yamaha myself...but, the main advantage that the Yamaha has over the 606 is preouts for external amps.

There has been a field test and yes, the Yamaha does run out of juice when running all channels - but I've never experienced this because I run seperate amps - so the Yamaha was the obvious choice for me. You can't miss with either - its a matter of opinion.

I have never experienced this myself with my reciever so how could i agree with this Are we talking about all yamaha recievers or just the 663?
If i had this problem i would have no problem agreeing with this and bringing it up at the table

http://www.ultimateavmag.com/avrecei...00/index2.html

Someone on this forum rated yamaha and Onkyo and there conclusion was Onkyo is better for theater and yamaha is better for music.(i think it's turning into a pet peeve of mine)

Onkyo owners run with this, Ive read it so many times(it's funny). i know there taking this from someone else and not from there own experience,

I never say anything about another reciever un less Ive had it first hand in my own setup. That's when people should be giving there advise on two recievers(if not then there talking out of there ass ,in my opinion)

Sorry prerich but thats how i feel,i can give advise on Yamaha(this is the second one i've own) But what ever i say about Onkyo would be hear say.So i choose to give none
instead i ask questions to people that might have that reciever and hear what they have to say and I've heard only good things with Onkyo.

So if i don't have a yamaha in my setup or never played with one in my home where am i getting my advise?
It'a Hear say, down the food chain (thats all).
I think really that's the only point iam trying to get across on this thread Prerich

That's my views on it and my own take on what ive been seeing.I have no problem sharing that on this forum . I still love ya brother

I think you were talking to me Ozzman.........I also agree opinions are to be taken with a grain of salt. And of course everyone is gonna stand behind their purchase because they don't want to feel like they have been had. My Bro In Law has the Yahama and I like the sound from the Yahama's ......(including their motorbikes ) I want him to hear mine but that means buying beer and ending up with a hangover
You had the link for the 3800 there? I didn't see where it had it was better then Onkyo for sound?? Unless I missed it? Denon was mentioned.
I didn't realize the power of the Onkyo 606 was lesser then that of the Yammy I thought the power supplies in the Onkyo's were what they are noted for?
Anyway nothin like a good debate we'll have to crack a couple of beers over this someday

Your receiver my friend, doesn't run out of juice like the 663. You're in another class all together - all is well ! The 663 for its price point is excellent!!! The issue is - pricepoint. You can't expect the performance of seperates at 350.00 or less. However, you can use the 663 to its advantage, the weak area of the 663 is the supplied power (for people with beefy systems) - its strong suite is its processing power, so play to its strong suite It has preouts so the power issue can become nil, and look at it like this - if your poweramps ever give out you have emergency backups while your amp is getting repaired or replaced.

I use my Yamaha as my prepro and emergency amps - I use my HTPC as my emergency BD/HD-DVD player and my emergency prepro. I have a system of backups (maybe that's the IT side of me coming out - never want to be without a good backup - by gosh, I even have backup speakers! )
