Kill Bill SteelBook™ France NOT region locked (well, sort of...) - Blu-ray Forum

Just got my 'Kill Bill v2' steel in the mail (Thanks, jw!) and working off a tip from the Blu-Ray region codes website got the disc to work on my US PS3.

Of course, when I first put it in I got the message saying it wouldn't play on my region player (in French, of course) -- hit the triangle button, told it to go to title 1 and VOILA! (no pun intended!), I was watching the disc that came in my steelbook!

Once I had the movie playing, I could pull up the pop up menu (or main menu) and throw it into English. Forced French subs, of course, but no need to replace it was a Reg. A disc and make a 'hybrid' copy of the movie, I can use the original now.

Just thought I would share. Hopefully this isn't a repeat of information, but if it is it's probably a good little piece since I didn't know about it until today. All the threads I was in when I was searching said "locked" so...anyway. There you go. Not sure how it would work on a standalone player, but for PS3 owners, should be good.

Dyou have the first movie as well and could confirm the same trick works there as well?

I have it but only got a Region B player.

oh boy, you mean u managed to get a REGION B disc to play on your REGION A PS3?

This is something new and interesting. Could you manage to get other REGION B discs to play as well?

I might go home and try your method on my REGION B discs...

I meant to add that and forgot, thanks. I don't know about the first disc, unfortunately. I ordered v2 because it looked nicer, and was waiting on the first one (since I was thinking I was going to have to swap discs). This changes things somewhat, however. If someone can confirm whether it works with v1 or not, I'll order it straightaway.

No other region B discs for me to check out (don't own any). But I was thinking the same thing...

I don't think that they're OOP -- someone else might know better, though. As far as I know, you can still get them from amazon.fr.

I have a feeling it's not going to be a fix for Region B's in general (that seems too much to ask), but maybe for TF1 discs... or maybe just the KBs slipped through the cracks somehow (or just this one). Not sure...

Cool. Just hard to tell sometimes because if they run out they just start shipping the standards out, but don't change the pics on the site.

TF1 still haven't replaced their Steels in stores with normal cases. If you find some that aren't Steels that's because they were released in amaray cases (with a slipcover) to start with.

You're safe to order.

I have a U.S PS3 and Vol.2 works, just need to press "triangle" to pop up the menu and then play with the buttons. I wasnt sure what exactly I did but I think I hit "play". When I took out the disc and replayed it, the "region-lock screen" was gone and the movie just played automatically. so I guess I "unlocked" it.

But sadly, Vol.1 doesnt work!

About the "hybrid" part, Im not sure if I want the french disc coz there are no english subtitles.

Has anyone tried this on DOA? I'd love that steelbook but since it's Region B, well that puts a stop to it. But if this works on it, I'd have a chance.

Just curious, the case on amazon.fr for Volume 1 looks like a normal plastic one now. V2 still looks like a steelbook.

Has it always been this way? Meaning the Volume 1 picture was incorrect, but it is a steelbook?

If you find some that aren't Steels that's because they were released in amaray cases (with a slipcover) to start with. You're safe to order.
