Dun Dun Dun, Another One Bites the Dust

I was in the local gaming store today browsing around for some family orientated entertainment for when my pops and brother come up this thanksgiving.

As I browsing through some PS3 games, I noticed that a high school kid and his mother came into the shop. They walked up to the sales counter, and the kid goes "so what's the best gaming console out there?". He replied "The Xbox 360 absolutely".

So, he continued to feed him with information about the 360 (and only about the 360) and how it is the clear winner of the PS3. I just sat there and bit my tongue because I didn't want them to lose a customer. I've been in sales before, and I ALWAYS inform the customer before recommend. What the salesman did here was very incorrect by my standards. Anyhow:

The kid said "Ill take the $299" one (The 60 GB Model).

I started to sing the song "Another one bites the dust" by Queen in my head. Then what happened next was funny.

So what do I need to play online with? "Well, you would need an Xbox live subscription card to start out playing." Another $19.99 tagged onto that price in order to give him some decent online play for 3 months. I was thinking, "This was free for me".

"How do I go about connecting this to the internet?", the kid asked. "Well, you would need to simply just plug it into a router, or buy the wireless adaptor". Well, turns out, this is going to be a living room unit from what i've heard, so his mother was a little skeptical about running a cord through the house. Well, add on another $99, because his mother asked for the wireless adaptor. Again, something else that was "free for most of us".

This was getting exciting. So far we have:

$299 + $99 + 19.99

= $417.99. And it still doesn't have the features of a PS3.

He walked over to the used game section, and picked up a few used games and another wireless controller. This all was just confusing to me, on how he could be totally blind before walking into the store and KNOWING what he wants. If you want an Xbox 360, FINE. But you should a at least do the research before buying one. It was very interesting how the salesman did not say "There is at-least a 33% chance that when you buy this, you will be sending it to Microsoft for repairs". Or how Blu-Ray wasn't even mentioned in the equation.

I guess the moral of the story is, quality and features do not sale.

I seem to run amongst ALOT of people who are Xbox 360 owners, and just simply want a PS3 for various reasons, the main one being reliability and certain games. Someone being so undecided as they were, they might just be one of those people in the future.
