Default HT near stove?

Wasn't sure where to try looking this up online, so I figured I'd post it here, and get some responses.

Right now I have my TV, A/V, PS3, speakers, sub, and all that jazz hooked up somewhat near an iron stove in my basement. I was thinking of actually using the stove this winter when it gets really cold, since it was recently cleaned out and ready for action.

So my question is, how close can the HT stuff be before it's too close? I've never used the stove, so I'm not really sure how hot it can get, though I imagine it won't be too hot once you step away from it. I just figured I'd ask here, regardless of how dumb the question seems, before I end up melting anything.

I have an HT setup near a gas fireplace and can tell you that things can get hot.

You have to consider the HT rack and how much ventilation it has. You may also want to invest in some USB fans. I bought a Targus laptop cooling fans to put on my cable box. It got so hot once that it locked up the hard drive and I had to get a replacement.

As far as distance, I probably wouldn't put them any closer than 3-4 feet.

IF you use the stove regularly you will be dusting your equipment off a a lot more they are frigging dirty. I used to have a stove in my living room about 15 feet from my HT. it wasnt a problem as far as heat goes but it did cause some imaging problems as my front left speaker fired towards the stove. that being said theres a lot to be said for a hot fire on a cold winter night.

a good test would be to stand by the stove in a pair of shorts..... find a space far enough away that you can't feel the heat (from which direction it's radiating from) on you leg...... that's a safe distance I'd say.

I would be more concerned about the all the particles the stove creates getting into all my components/TV. They all have fans that circulate air... might get messing and eventually burn them out.
