Are you having issues with the Denon not decoding something that it should be decoding? Also what type of speakers are you running and what components will you be wanting to hook up to the new AVR?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when the OP says "amp" he is actually referring to a new AVR? I admit I am a little confused about the "decoding" and "multi-channel" statements in his post....

I thought AMP then saw "decoding" and decided AVR

What are you using for a Blu-ray player? Your receiver can't decode lossless audio( doesn't have the decoders, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Pjx9YHQ...ures_and_specs ), plus( Note: The AVR-1609 cannot read the audio signal from the HDMI input; separate audio cables must be connected. ). Most newer receivers have the decoders now. What's your budget?

sounds like he wants a multi channel amp so I will throw in EMOTIVA again as inexpensive yet good reputation. and also sounds like he is throwing in a question about a problem with his avr? OP please clarify... and why all caps?

I'm going to go with zippo on this and add a suggestion that money might be better spent on a new AVR with hdmi audio codecs than on an amp. if that is what you intended

Ok well i have a hd cable box hooked up to the dennon and then i also have a bluray hooked up to it also......i wouldn't mind a better avr on here if someone is willing to trade for cash and my dennon now...or me just keep the dennon and get a seperate multi channel amp to drive my speakers.....

All my componets are hooked up through hdmi(the modle of dennon does not allow me to run just a hdmi, i have to run a sperate optical connection for the both sources i run through the reciver) then i have to use another optical connection for the seperate componets.....

Help at all?

You should buy a new AVR that can handle HD audio first and then worry about an external amplifier later. You may be able to get a couple of hundred dollars for your receiver.

I agree. He will have to do that anyway as his current Denon doesn't have preouts on it.

Sell your AVR and add some funds to buy one that decodes all of the codecs and has pre-outs.

You'll have to provide us with a budget (sans Horse trade) to allow us the opportunity to provide you with some real options.
