Well it seems you arnt missing out on anything in the states.Read these 2 reviews one of the blu-ray and one of the dvd its the first time im buying a dvd over a blu-ray.

The Blu-Ray is miles ahead of the DVD, Honestly one of my most watched films on any format. The clarity is miles ahead of the standard release.

Compare the screen caps of the HD-DVD to the SD here (HD-DVD is the same encode as the Blu)

I wouldn't use it as a demo disc but I've been happy with the import.

Hell, the hi-def gets points based on color saturation alone.
