We've all bought super expensive blu's at some point and time, maybe even a movie knew was shitty was still fun.
My question is... when do you feel that the price you've paid for one has been justified?. Personally, as long as I've watched the complete film atleast twice I am happy with any price tag. For big Anthology sets I am good if I can view them atleast twice within a 3 year mark. |

If its a must-have and something I just dont want to wait for, Ill "sell myself" on the price.
However, I have also skipped films due to the cost being too high. For example, Equilibrium is a great flick but I aint payin $50 bucks or whatever for some Japanese import which is the only truly good version. |

The most I've paid for a bluray was $30.00 for a Disney's the Princess and the Frog. I can justify it now since it's one of my daughters favorites, but I doubt I'll be doing that again. However, for a TV show, I would pay around $45.00 for a show like CHUCK.

1) I rarely purchase new releases, but when I do it has to be $20 or less. Also, if it comes with a slipcover I'll make sure and hunt that down. 2) Catalogs must be $15 or less even with the titles in box sets. 3) Catalogs with lossy audio and/or less than perfect PQ I will wait until they are closer to $10. |

And that's including the Alien Anthology, Fringe Season 1, Man With No Name Trilogy, Blade Runner, Saving Private Ryan, etc. I've probably gotten move new movies for $5 than I have for over $10. |

i never pay more than 15 bucks for a single movie unless its a Criterion which i wont pay more than 20 bucks for. obviously there are collectors editions (digibooks, steelbooks, box sets etc) that ive paid more for, but even with them i usually get them on sale. when i buy box sets of multiple movies (Godfather, Bourne, Spider-Man, Alien, Millenium etc) its usually still no more than about $15 a film. i think the most i ever paid was the Alien Anthology when it came out for like $55 i think, which is still under 15 each.

the highest priced movie I bought was GI Joe I paid $20 for that day one, I talked Best Buy into Price Matching Amazon on that one, even though they normally don't price match amazon. I hardly every go over $12 for Blu Rays, or any movie for that matter, even when I got into DVD. The most I plan on spending is whatever it costs to get Star Wars, and I will shop around to try and get the best deal on that.

I consider the price justifiable if I've managed to give it at least one viewing, and/or if the price itself is low enough.
I've spent over $60 to get the "Blade Runner" Ultimate set on both DVD and Blu-Ray ($50 DVD with briefcase and goodies, $17 for the Blu-Ray edition). I've seen the movie twice now (final cut and theatrical cut), and I will be watching it over and over again for as long as I own it. I've taken a brief look at its extras. I believe this price is justifiable. On the other hand, I've spent less than $10 on certain titles. Even if I never get the chance to see them, I'm not worried about wasting money. |

When you watch movies on a projector it really makes a difference. I never rent and don't watch a ton of movies but recently I decided to only buy movies I know for sure I'll watch again and am now careful about blind buys. Having said that, my wife had a deal on a blockbuster rental and we watched Source code on DVD on the projector and man did it look bad. If it's something I like I'll never watch a DVD again! If it's too expensive I'm just going to wait and be patient and get it when the price drops. Which is why I don't have LOTR the extended version or the Superman series on blu now but I'll have them around the holiday season though.

When they're on offer or at low prices, it's a deal.

I feel like spending $90 on Star Wars: The Complete Saga is very much justified for me. For one, unlike a lot of fans of the series, I enjoy all six movies. Plus there's the three extra discs of special features.
Also with where I ordered my set from I get it 8 days before release date. Money well spent if you ask me. ![]() |

1) Watch it AT LEAST twice.
2) Enjoy it (at least on some level). I will only pay big bucks if it is an absolute fave (therefore multiple viewings are a given), or if I know it is considered a good film and is going OOP (in these instances I may have very little knowledge of the film). Quote:

Any childrens movie bought for my little girl I probably paid a high premium for ($30ish). The worst thing that ever happened was when she learned to tell the difference between the "blue cases our machine eats" and DVD cases. I can't get out of any store without a kids movie it seems.
Other than that, I bargain shop fully. I'll pay a good price for weird/obscure films that I like and don't feel will ever be sub-$10. A good example of that is Election, a movie that should be $7 but is $20+. |

I purchased the Apocalypse Now Full Disclosure set for $30, which is over $20 more than what I normally pay for a blu-ray. I really like the movie and the transfer looks amazing...but the clincher was the Hearts of Darkness documentary, which I've been meaning to see for ages.
Other than that, the only expensive blu-rays I buy are the Pixar films, because they are usually never cheap, and are also some of the greatest films ever made. And they look incredible. Every other movie I get is purchased at or below the lowest it has ever been listed on Amazon's price tracker. Why spend more than you have to, especially when there are a dozen unwatched movies on the shelf at home? No more wasting money. ![]() |

Usually my price limit is $15, UNLESS it features Angelina Jolie, I paid like $30 for the Wanted
Special Edition blu. Also got Salt on day 1 for like $23. About to get Original Sin and A Mighty Heart soon, and maybe The Bone Collector as well. Most of the blus I get are in the $8-$13 range, mostly from Amazon. |

Almost everything I am remotely interested in will get purchased at $12-$15.
Anything that I know I must have in my collection (The Matrix trilogy, Superman Anthology, LOTR EE boxset, Black Swan, Marvel comic book film adaptations, etc) all get purchased at the cheapest pre-order price that I can find. I like to support the studios in generating revenue for future projects, so I have no problem paying the retail price for stuff that I love... even if I only get to ever watch it once at home. |
