Default Need animated superhero Blu-ray recommendation

I've been on a real superhero film binge lately after watching The Avengers recently and picking up the X-Men films this past weekend. I understand there are some pretty decent animated superhero BD's and I would like some recommendations as to what to buy.

I'm mostly interested in Batman, Avengers, and Superman, but would like recommendations on other DC and Marvel properties if they are good.

Thanks!

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (Season 1 & 2) is an excellent series. You can order the series from Canada (amazon.ca).

Hulk Vs. (Wolverine & Thor) is excellent.

My highest recommendations are Justice League Seasons 1 and 2 on blu, and Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes Season 1 (need to get from Amazon Canada).

I find the animated series tend to work better for me than the stand alone movies. The stories have more time to develop over the life of the series.

I know you were asking about blu, but some of the best hasn't made it yet to blu yet that shouldn't stop you from enjoying.
Justice League Unlimited 1 and 2 on DVD.
Batman the Animated Series all seasons.
Superman the Animated Series all seasons.

My personal favorites are:
Batman: Under the Red Hood
Batman: Year One
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker

Also love Mask of the Phantasm, Batman: Sub-Zero, and The World's Finest, but none of those have Blu-ray releases.

As a much MUCH bigger Marvel Universe fan I can easily say that the DC Animated movies are of much better quality then anything Marvel has put out. That's not to say that the Marvel animated stuff is bad, it's just not up to the same quality as what DC consistently puts out. Here's my order of recommendations based on everything I own... (If you're not interested in the TV Series' then just ignore those entries, but they really are quite good.)

Extra Suggestions:
-Batman The Animated Series (Only on DVD But by FAR the Best Animated Superhero series ever)
-X-Men The Animated Series (Only on DVD, But again one of the best series' around... if you enjoy the X-men)

Blu Ray's:
-Justice League Season 1 & 2 (Tv Series)
-Batman Under the Red Hood
-All Star Superman
-Wolverine and The X-men The Complete Series (Tv Series)
-The Dark Knight Returns
-Planet Hulk
-Green Lantern First Flight
-Superman/Batman Public Enemies
-Superman/Batman Apocalypse
-Superman Doomsday
-Hulk Vs
-Ultimate Avengers
-Iron Man
-Superman/Shazam
-Dr Strange

I just ordered Batman: Under The Red Hood and Dark Knight Returns Part 1. Is it me or does it seem like the Marvel ones are a bit, well, kid oriented, while the DC ones seem geared more towards an older viewer? I prefer that darker, more mature tone, if that helps with recommendations.

I think Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is severely underrated as being the best release from WB Animation. TDK 1&2 is very good, followed by Batman: Under the Red Hood, and Wonder Woman is still top notch.

Seeing how The Dark Knight Returns is available at a low price right now, is there in point in waiting for the Deluxe Edition? I don't mind switching the disc after each part but is there any additional footage in the upcoming edition?

The actual best ones? Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker is awesome with a number of twists. Justice League Unlimited has the best story arc of the Justice League seasons but you really need to watch the first two seasons in order.

All-Star Superman is one of the finest Superman stories ever told, but Marvel fans won't probably like it since there is no real villain in the story and it is more of an ode to an era when superheroes weren't gritty vigilantes.

The Wolverine Vs. Thor and Hulk are more adult orientated with a couple of Hulk adventures but Marvel is slightly geared towards the younger viewer. I'd recommend Justice League it doesn't get much better than that and it's the most enjoyable series to watch, even if it's not as gritty as you may want it makes up for it in charm.

By the end of this thread, every single animated feature will be listed.

Batman Beyond: The Joker Returns is the darkest and least-Nolan/Legder influenced version of the Joker of the animated films.

I thought GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT was pretty neat. And it has a great music score.

Great choices! I just blogged about my collection of DCU animated movies, briefly rating each one. Those two are among my top five faves of the lot. As a DC guy, I haven't picked up any of the Marvel titles. Would love to give them a shot sometime, but the general talk that they're not as good as DC's haven't helped get me excited to pull the trigger.

Batman: The Animated Series is great too, if you're willing to invest the time to check them out. This list of 15 best TAS episodes has a lot of great ones on it.

Great post! Thanks so much for the information you and others have provided. I'm anxious to get those two discs and start watching them.
