Default whats ur volume

i went to BB to chk out that demo for that $10 coupon. he showed a clip of "i am legend," he had a Pioneer elite reciever volume at -2 and it was loud but not as loud as i thought. eventhough the doors was closed and the space wasn't that big. just didn't seem loud enough. at home in my living room the loudest we go is -20 and thats perfect.

in my bedroom where my wife uses the system in their the most she has it at -17 and thats with smaller bookshelf size speakers. down in my basement i use a db meter thats sits at 90db and trust me thats beyond LOUD...

Many others have noted the seemingly low volume of the Pioneer Elite receivers. I've noticed the same thing with mine - never seen a good explanation on it though.

the older Integra AVRs are nice..... do you use separate amps, and use it as a pre-pro, or does it drive your speakers?

It drives my speakers. The volume took some adjustment because with my old Yamaha I never even turned it up more than 1/3 of the way. This thing is a beast though.

I normally play my 805 at around 0db. -3 or -5 if people are complaining. I've played certain songs on my PS3 at +6db before; possibly louder. Some songs are quieter than others.

I've went as high as -10db.
Trust me thats pretty loud in my room.I don't think i ever hit +0db

I can't believe the people below me haven't said on word.
God i love my neighbours and the surprising thing is when i do see them they still say hi to me

Petenad,

I find that funny.
When i was younger my Mother always told me to turn it down.
Now iam going through the same thing at times with my wife.
When she's asks me to turn it down i always do,Then slowly turn it back up 2 db's at a time

But i have to say when she tells me to turn it down i feel like a 13 year old boy again getting sh*t from my mom.LOL

I doubt it was calibrated; even if it was when they switch to different speakers it should be calibrated again since some speakers are less or more sensitive then others; so don't worry about volume setting in this setting.

Depends on the movie and it could be -24 or -20. If I start to go up I then need to turn the subs down, I do live in an apt.

The people who do live in an apt. Have you ever turned yours up and went outside to hear how it sounds? and as you get closer to your own apt. you think to yourself "What the f*#k is wrong with me"?

You also have to take in consideration what db the speakers are starting off with.

For movies -30ish (family viewing) -20 to -15ish (alone time)
For music -35ish (family) -10 to -5 (alone time).

I dont own a spl meter anymore, i found i'd calibrate it then find myself tweaking it anyway. That and the fact that i'd actually hate to know the actual levels i was listening at....LOL

Denon 5803 + Nad 218thx
