Default Just saw Bond:Quantum of Solstice in Seoul today

Well, we are lucky here, because we get to see this movie a bit earlier than America, I'm told.

I went with high expectations, but ended up walking out of the theater with mixed feelings. I don't want to spoil this, so I'll just give a brief view of my feelings about the movie.

1. There was practically no humor in it at all. I tend to like the witty Bond humor that comes out, and it just wasn't there. Something was missing without it.

2. My wife commented that Bond didn't use any unique or interesting weapons/devices. In Casino Royale, we at least had the cool anti-poison defibrilator thingie in the car. It's as if the director (who also did Bourne movies) got lost in the "tough guy" aspect of it, gave Bond a .380 and a lot of Bourne-style fight scenes, and figured it was enough. Odd that she would notice such a thing, but I didn't.

3. This movie is dark. I can't think of a single soul being lighthearted in it. It's continually serious all of the time.

4. In an attempt to make the evil organization seem so secretive, they didn't give the viewer enough to go on. This left my wife and I feeling a bit underwhelmed by "the villain" aspect of the picture.

5.
[Show spoiler]Bond didn't have enough sex. The girl he slept with wasn't even the one we expected he would sleep with in the previews. No witty foreplay. Not even a seduction scene. What a downer! Again... too serious!

6. The typical Hollywood anti-war digs were in there... using Euro dollars instead of US dollars, "...because the US dollar isn't worth much due to wars" or however they put it. Also, the comment on the US being wrapped-up in the Middle-East while ignoring South America came off as some sort of dig.

7. The new James Bond dude looks like he's aged a lot from the last movie. Facially, anyway, he's got quite a few more wrinkles. He was often dirty and ragged in this flick, which made it seem worse. I bet blu-ray will REALLY highlight this. Sure, he's in great shape, but his face is looking so old it was almost hard to see him frolicking with someone much younger, if you catch my drift. I wonder if this will affect how long he continues to be a Bond guy?

8. The camera shakes way the hell too much!!! It's one thing to use the camera to make the scene look more action-packed, but when it turns the scene into a blur for several seconds over and over again... it's too much!

So overall, I guess I was not particularly impressed.

This is suppose to take place right after Casino Royale finished so that might explain the darker look of the film also Bond doesn't have the backing of MI6 in this movie hence no gadgets.

He had MI6 backing for a good portion of the flick.

I'm disappointed with the way Bond is going. I thought Casino Royale was a solid action movie but a lackluster Bond film. I'm hoping that they will bring it back to a more witty and fun Bond soon. ( Saying that, QOS does look good but it look like James "Bourne" to me) Just my opinion

I actually like the bit more serious Bond. Plus, in the books Bond was never really a great looking guy. That was more due to the movie makers, I'm looking forward to the new film. Thanks for the review.

You mean a pirated camcorder version of the movie was flickering away on your computer screen?

Not exactly what "I" would consider watching a movie but to each his own.

Why are you even posting on Blu-Ray.com when quality means nothing to you?

(I apologize for the abrasiveness of my post but I have no tolerance for theatrical piracy.)

Oh and to the O.P. - It's Quantum Of SOLACE.

Yes, a pirated version. And it is "watching a movie" because it is, watching a movie. Not the way I would prefer to watch a movie, but I dont feel like waiting a week. And your tolerance for theatrical piracy means nothing to me.

I watched QOS three times in the cinema and the fourth time with the pirates version. Great stuff and will probably watch it again tomorrow.

I'm sure he just finds it hard to believe anyone would be so void of respect for the movie watching experience..

QOS is a love it or hate it movie. I personally love it. I hated all the Brosnan movies though.

I don't see the point of watching a movie on shot by some guy holding a camera in the theatre. The lowered quality takes away from the experience.

And I REALLY hate when people think they're bad ass because of it. You didn't say that but a lot of people do.

I dont think im "bad ass" one bit for watching it. I have wanted to see this movie for a long long long time, and I dont feel like spending $11 at the movie theater, when I can watch it at home. No its not the same experience, but its the same movie, and its $11 less

It's statements like this that cause movie budgets to get cut, ticket prices to go up, some projects to get cancelled, etc. A lot of people worked hard to make this movie. The least we owe them is not to steal it from them. And that is what you were doing. Having worked on movies myself, this disgusts me. I'm sorry, this IS stealing. For someone who frequents a blu-ray site, I'd figure you had more respect for movies. Couldn't wait a week? What was so important you couldn't? Pretty sure you could've.

Couldn't agree more. Frankly, I wish the mods would ban anyone who actively supports/promotes/participates in or advocates piracy on the boards here.

I'm definitely not sitting in the front row at the theater then.
