Default One psn account... Multiple ps3s

Hey guys,

i just recently sold my 40gb ps3 and well, i forgot to delete my user on there. i have downloaded add-ons and games on there. i went to a friends house and changed my psn password and all to make sure he cants access my account.

my question is........ can i still use the same user name and access my psn on a new ps3 (which im getting at the end of the week) and redownload all the material without problems ???

also.. if he does log onto my user account on the ps3, and i log on, on the new ps3, is there conflict since there would be two ppl logged on as the same time ???

thanks for the help and hope i was clear enough

if i were to create another user and use the same psn account, would all the achievements from games like cod4 and warhawk count for the new name or would i start from scratch ???

Yes, you can. The redownloading is only applicable to non-premium downloadable games; Siren and Warhawk for example are not applicable.

Yes, there would be. So it's a good idea to delete your account in your first PS3.

You can't create another user with the same PSN account as a PSN account is for that one user only. You CAN create multiple users on a single PS3 console, with separate billing info if necessary.

Not familiar with achievements. Somebody else will respond to that.

what do you mean by premium and non-premium games ???
i have only two full games downloaded of the psn, echochrome and pixeljunk monsters. would those be affected ???

also i have add-on content for warhawk, rockband, and cod... those i can redownload with no problems right ?

okay this probably going to be dumb but i forgot. i changed the password on the psn account, so if the person i sold my old ps3 to cant go online, unless he can access my psn account right ???
so if you cant log onto your psn account you cant get online right ???

You can download all add ons and all PSN only games (No disc release) up to five times to any PS3.

What I would do with your old PS3 is deactivate your account on that PS3 (Otherwise you will lose one of your five PS3's you can download to), and delete your account from your old PS3. That is the only way to know for sure that they won't be able to log in to your account.

Up to five time, you mean on five different ps3 or if I change the hard drive 6 time on the same ps3, I wont be able to download my psn games again? (not that I intend to do that... but just to know )

You can download it unlimited times on 5 different PS3's AFAIK.
Anyhoo when you backup your old hard disk all the PSN games also get backed up. Restoring it on the new hard disk, I think, will not count as one download.

If you've changed your PSN Account password then nobody will sign into your account on the old PS3. The stored password won't match your new one.

You can download any paid game content from the PSN an unlimited number of times on up to 5 activated machines. You didn't deactivate your PS3 before selling it so you'll have to phone Sony to get them to do that for you if you want control of all 5 activations.

On the new PS3 create a local User Account, doesn't matter what it's called (this isn't a PSN account) and when you try to go online you'll probably be asked to make a new PSN account or enter details for an existing account.

Well I have 2 PS3's, and one was defective that was sent back to Sony. I "borrowed" a PS3 from Best Buy while my first one was being repaired, so that is 4 activations just for myself alone. I shared with my best friend, and now I am all out of activations. I can download to my machine as many times as I want, but if I want to share with anyone else, I need to deactivate one of the other ones first.

when you guys mean deactivate, it means deleting the account from other ps3s right ???

ive had a ps3 with a flashing red light, but restored the hdd on another ps3.
ive also made an account on my friends ps3 and deleted it on the same day.

when you mean have 5 activated accounts ?? does that mean their all running at the same time ??

hey shinra, when you say create any named local user account, and once i attach that to my psn account do i keep all my trophies, and accomplisments in other games such as prestiging in cod4 ???

When you add a PSN account to any PS3 it is activated. If you delete the account it still stays as an activated PS3, and takes up one of the five activations. You must go into account management and deactivate the account from that PS3 to get back one of the five activations.

PlayStation Network > Account Management > System Activation is where you deactivate the PS3 or PSP you're using.

Trophies will be re-synced with your new PS3 once you're signed in with your old PSN account and check your trophies.

I had one of my 5 activated systems I had to return to Best Buy about 18months ago unfortunately I did not know about having to deactivate it. I don't know why Sony could not set something up like iTunes were you can deactivate all systems once every year or so.

No, as I said before, you could also phone up Sony to get them to reset your activated machines.

OK, looking for some additional info on this topic.

I just purchased a 2nd PS3 so the kids can watch Blu-rays in the bedroom if we're watching TV in the living room. Inevitably, tho, I can see us using the 2nd PS3 for gaming, too.

1.) Can I have my PSN account for downloads/purchases on the 2nd PS3 too?

2.) Also, is it possible to have our same profile names/nicknames on the 2nd PS3?

3.) I understand the same profile couldn't be logged in at the same time, but if the kids are logged in under their screen name in the living room and I'm logged in under my screen name in the bedroom, could we play games head-2-head?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

  1. Yes you can, just not logged in at the same time as your other PS3.
  2. Yes it is.
  3. You can, but most (if not all) games would take you both out to the internet to make you join up. That is to say, you probably would not be able to do co-op play over your home network only. This is conjecture and should be treated as such, hopefully followed up by a more knowledgeable answer.
