Default Versions not available on Blu...

My continuing disappointment that the director's cuts of Star Treks 1, 2, & 6 are not available in Blu made me wonder what other movies are available, but only in one version.
My rule is the other version is 'official' if it has been released BEFORE on home video in another format.

My list so far of 'versions not available' (IN A US RELEASE)..........

Star Trek 1 ---Director's cut
Star Trek 1 ---'special longer version'
Star Trek 2 ---Director's cut
Star Trek 6 ---Director's cut
Star Trek 6 ---Director's cut with minor 'tweaks'
Conan--- US theatrical
Conan--- Extended
Mimic --- Theatrical
Amadeus ---Theatrical
Dances With Wolves --- Theatrical
Elektra --- Theatrical
Daredevil --- Theatrical
Fantastic Four--- Extended
Punisher 1 --- Extended
Kingdom of Heaven --- Theatrical
Troy ---Theatrical
Alexander ---Theatrical
Alexander --- Extended
Dune --- Extended
Star Wars--- Theatrical
Empire strikes Back---Theatrical
Return of the Jedi --- Theatrical (don't go crazy folks-that's a separate thread!)
Das Boot --- Uncut
Warriors --- Theatrical
Commando --- Director's cut
Army of Darkness (Evil Dead 3) --- 'Director's bootleg edition'
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves --- theatrical
Independence Day --- Extended
Die Hard 4 (Live Free or Die Hard) --- unrated
Cinema Paradiso --- Italian cut
Cinema paradiso --- Director's cut
Payback --- Theatrical
Godfather --- Complete Epic: 1902-1959
Godfather --- Trilogy: 1901-1980
Scream --- Unrated
Dumb And Dumber --- theatrical
Robocop --- Theatrical
Last of the Mohicans --- Theatrical

So what else and feel free to point out any errors......

Take these of the list.
* Alexander: Theatrical cut is out in Japan.
* Conan The Barbarian: extended director's cut is available everywhere but the USA
* Kingdom of Heaven: Theatrical version is out in Brazil, under the name "Crusader"
* Mimic: Theatrical cut is also for sale in Canada.
* Dances with Wolves: theatrical cut is available in the UK.
* Troy: theatrical cut is available in Germany.

You should add the Warriors (theatrical cut), Army of Darkness (Directors cut in HD), Commando (directors cut), Die Hard 4 (Unrated Cut), Feast (actual unrated cut, box is a typo), Executive Decision (US Theatrical Cut).

Huh? I don't understand this topic at all. But, you can add one particular movie that has more footage cut out of than any other film produced. The original 6 hour version of Scarface.

I remember watching it back in the mid-80's.

You should add the Warriors
Dances with Wolves is also available in Germany as a steelbook and contains 2 discs with both cuts of the film.
It's Greece, not Germany for Troy. Come now Fanboyz.

If an import is region free or region A locked (Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea) it's just as accessible to your BD as a US release. The only rare exception is a few releases have PAL material, which most US players and HDTVs can't decode.

I've seen the uncut version and IMHO it is inferior to the director's cut due to the terrible pacing it creates.

He should have put a "not available in the US" qualifier. Not many people in the US are going to seek alternate UK or Canadian releases, let alone order from non English speaking countries like Germany, Greece, or Japan.

It's nice to know. But even for people with motivation enough about blu-rays to spend time on blu-ray.com (like me), importing is an entirely different proposition. Especially Japan which seems to be crazy expensive to import, who is going to import a mediocre film like Alexander just to get a different version??. Generally speaking only a few hardcore people are going to do that. People outside of this website would have no idea about it...

This is all I could think of, for now...

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - theatrical
Independence Day - extended
Live Free or Die Hard - unrated
Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader - theatrical framing

Amadeus Theatrical version - I hate that the digibook (and other blu releases) only comes with the director's cut

The Town Uncut 4 Hour version (edit: nm I totally didn't read that it has to released already. Either way I totally want to see that cut on Blu one day )

Just my two cents, but some prices are high enough as it is; I ain't paying for shipping on top of that, just to get a disc of questionable quality, with one heck of a return hassle.

Oldie but goodie that will probably never change

SCREAM - NC-17/Unrated Cut

Released (by accident) on the first run on VHS. All subsequent editions have been the R-rated cut shows in theaters. The unrated cut is apparently much more violent.

Payback (Theatrical) - UK Import has both, which I own
Almost Famous (Theatrical) not on blu anywhere
Copland (Director's Cut) - which is a few min less then the theatrical
The Da Vinci Code (Theatrical) only extended exsists
Con Air: Extended Cut (DVD only)
Enemy of the State: Extended Cut
Halloween - Television Cut (DVD only)
A Knight's Tale: Extended Cut
Lethal Weapon 1-2-3 - Director's Cut's
Pearl Harbor: Director's Cut
Revenge (Theatrical)
Walk the Line: Extended Cut / it's a UK Import

Face it, Europe gets the better versions.

How about The Godfather 1902–1959: The Complete Epic ? That one was available on VHS and LD, but never on DVD, at least AFAIK.

For those that don't know, it was a megalong edit of all the material used in the first 2 movies, plus a lot of footage that wasn't in the theatrical versions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Godfather_Saga

It would be awesome if it could be put on blu-ray, especially now that Coppola can still personally supervise the project. In another 10 years, he may not be around.

Funny enough, I got pissed off when I bought the blu-ray and previewed scenes I vividly remember from the VHS was missing (haven't seen it in years.) Ex.
[Show spoiler] When Drew Barrymore's boyfriend gets his stomach cut, the wide shot stays on him for 2 seconds as his intestines spill out. It was pretty graphic. It doesn't matter much to the story, but it shocked me as a teen and it surprised me that the original cut replaced that shot with the close up of his head rolling back.

What's different about the 'Director's Cut' and 'Special Longer Version' of Star Trek 1?
