Default Nielsen VideoScan for week ended March 18

Nielsen VideoScan for week ended March 18:
SI, Blu-ray:HD-DVD
100:84.07

YTD, Blu-ray:HD-DVD
100:44.44

This gives us an estimated weekly sales ratio of 100:23, about the same as last week.

Six days of Casino Royale sales are included. These numbers also include the second week of Amazon 50%-off sale.

Been waiting for these numbers.

Love those Since Inception numbers. Seeing it move roughly 5 points in a week is very revealing.

"Go HD-DVD go!!! Keep showing Blu-ray who's boss! ***** Sony!!!"

^Probable HD-DUD fanboy response from AVS.

Where will those numbers be when the Pirate movies come out. All those Playstation 3's in Europe will only increase sales to a point Universal will have no more excuses and release in Blu.

The "Since Inception" graph is the best, since it shows that since BR became the leader HD-DVD just keeps going down in sales, it doesn't even level out after Feb. 18th. This is great news.

As I mentioned ealier in another Nielsen thread, if you interpolate these trends, by the time the Pirates arrive, the sales since inception will be around 2:1. That meaning: When Pirate discs are in stores, There would be 2.6 million BDs at homes while there would only be 1.3 million HD DVDs at home, give or take a few hundred thousand. We'll see.

Wouldn't that be extrapolating the trends?

Yes, and also remember that HD-DVD had no March releases, until next Tuesday, that is.

It will depend on how The Matrix Trilogy sells and is reported, since it comes out the same week. If they report one sell as three, since there are three movies, it will skew the numbers for them, if they're reported as one sell, it's skewed for BD. This is a good competitor for them, but Apocalypto and Flags of Our Fathers really helps BD that week.
