Default A Couple Questions About Audio Gear

So I've been discovering some very high resolution audio lately (vinyl rips/DVD-A, etc.) and am looking into possibly getting a turntable and all that jazz. I'm getting really tired of Creative sound cards and all the baggage associated with that.

So to get to the point, I've been looking into getting a new sound card. Should I go for a card like the Asus Xonar D2X (probably with an external headphone amplifier) or should I go with the HT Omega Claro Halo (has a built-in headphone amp.)

Basically I just want to be able to listen to high quality digital audio in all its glory. I'm worried if I got an external amp that it would introduce distortion, etc. and need to get really high quality cables and all that. Any advice from the audiophiles of Blu-ray.com?
