Thats what I noticed most. Better seperation and more activity out of the rear channels putting you more "in" the movie.

I still have yet to experience it with a decent speaker setup. Just a mish mash of speakers. Looking to work some OT in the next few weeks and invest in a beginner Polk setup. I really love the Monitors in cherry.

one of the big things i notice with lossless is ambient effects.. and also hearing much more of the music used in soundtracks..

I can't compare 1080p to lossless or uncompressed because i have a 720p TV. But uncompressed or lossless audio was like having cotton batten removed from my ears.

I have to admit, I'm not that much of an audiophile to differentiate between HD and a regular 5.1 track. Maybe it's because of the way my speakers are set up and I have no idea how to get the most out of my system that I've never been blasted away by the audio of a Blu-Ray disc.

One time that it did really impress me though was in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. The scene when Moss discovers the tracking device in the money and then listens and senses that Chigur is coming for him in the hotel. The first couple of times I saw that scene, I thought it was just a thud that alerted him. But when I heard the film on Blu-Ray, I heard very clearly that it was the cattle gun killing the front desk clerk.

I think it's a shame that NO COUNTRY lost the Oscar for Sound FX Editing. Not only was the cinematography breath taking, but so much of the film depends on the tiniest of sounds to convey so much of the films story and tone and message.
