I know everyone has there own opinion but mine is Why can't all Bd's be 1.85:1 ratio?? I think it makes the picture stand out so much more it fills most/to all of the display, I just think it stands out so much better...Back in the DVD & standard TV days I preferred Widescreen DVD's, I would freak if my GF accidentally would buy a fullscreen DVD & exchange it.. But I wish more bd's were 1.85:1 instead of the more common ratio of 2.40:1..Who agree or disagrees?

More of this "fool screen" baloney?
![]() Jeez. The silliness never ends when it comes to playing Hollywood movies within one's living room. One the saddest things is some tool getting his new 16X9 HDTV screen, loading up one of his fool screen DVD movies and playing it in stretch-o-vision mode on that new HDTV. ![]() Original Aspect Ratio only. That's my view on it. |

I thought we had an OAR sticky?????? If you have an issue where a movie's aspect ratio is not 1.85:1, then take it up with the director, until then use the full screen mode on your TV.

So my cousin buy's a 52" samsung a few months back tells me its awesome he loves it, great im happy for him. so months later i go over to visit and i see his tv, yea he was right it is awesome........or so i thought. while i was switching though to channels i noticed the PQ was kind of fuzzy and blown up, to my surprise he had his HD cable box set on SD content ![]() i asked him why do you have it on this? he says the MONSTER hdmi cable is not giving him sound with the HD channels so he leaves it on SD. i tell him so why dont you take it back? he says yea i am( still to this day he hasn't taken it back) mind you he paid $100 for this cable and its not even 6 feet. i told him all about monoprice and he says oh wow thats crazy! im like yea! he still hasn't gotten around to getting those cables so it looks like im going to have to get it for him ![]() so right now as we speak( or type) he whaching SD content blown up on a nice 52" samsung......sad i know but it gets way better. If it's the former, I couldn't disagree with you more. What about films shot in 1.33:1? They would be cropped on Blu-Ray if presented in 1.85:1. Films shot in 2.40:1 would also be too cropped, losing some of the left and right sides of the image. What would be the point of that? I prefer to see the films as they were originally intended, when released for theaters. |

There would be three and a half Ghostbusters, five and a half children in the Sound of Music, Chewbacca and Han Solo chilling on a couch in Star Wars, and the Enterprise would be misisng its engines if everything were 1.85.
2.35:1/2.40:1 was created by filmmakers to ensure the picture was as grand as possible. This is why the Lethal Weapon series went from 1.85:1 to 2.40.1, the filmmakers felt that the intimacy of the first film didn't work with the large scale action of the sequels. Thus the frame was made wider to give the image and story more breathing room. Same with the Spider-Man series. Best way to prove this: Take a picture with your cellphone of five people. Don't crowd them, just take the photo. Now take a picture with your personal camera of five people. A lot easier to do when the frame allows for more room. That is why 2.35/2.40 were born. Without it, some of our best movies would never have the emotional feeling of grandeur and awe. |

All Blu-rays are 1.78:1 (16:9) and can’t be any other aspect ratio; that’s in the specs. I personally think they should just have allowed any aspect ratio.
