Default PS3/VIZIO/HDMI Compatability PLEASE HELP

Hey all,
Purchased a new Vizio 42in model VS42L also a new PS3 in hopes of enjoying BLU RAY. When i got home i set up the TV and plugged an extra set of HDMI cables from the TV to the System. Automatically the PS3 detects the 1080 setting but then seems to crashes (black screen). I contacted Sony and they told me its either the cables or the tv. I highly doubt its the TV because i have read numerous reviews saying how great the playstation3 looks on this particular model. I’m using an extra set of HDMI cables that came with the tv and even tried it with a set of cables that came with the TV as well, neither have worked. Anybody have any suggestions on why the system freezes and leaves me with a black screen. Please help..PLEASEEEEEE Im so frustrated

It might be something as simple as an HDMI handshake issue. The TV must be powered on before the PS3 so that the PS3 can confirm its plugged into something HDCP-compliant; otherwise the screen will go black.

If not....I have no idea. But I had this issue the first time I hooked up the PS3 & it freaked me out for a few minutes (till I went & read the manual again).

edit: the above instruction need only be followed once---if this is indeed the issue, you won't have to make sure to turn the TV on first forever & ever...

Sounds like a HDMI handshake issue. First if you have component cables for the PS2, connect that to the PS3. It should work and give you 1080i video. If that works and HDMI doesn't, it's a handshake issue. This could mean either the HDMI port is not HDCP compliant or the firmware in the Vizio is buggy.

You could try getting another HDMI cable if you're still not certain. You might also want to check with Vizio to see if other people have complaints on this particular model.

I have a friend with a 32" 720p Vizio that gave us problems with a PS3.
1. Only one of the HDMI ports would work, we still don't know why.
2. While using the one port that worked, we had to tell the PS3 to output ONLY a 720p signal.
3. Finally, we had to turn the 24Hz feature off. It was on 'automatic' but we had to turn this 'off' to get BDs to play correctly.

Good luck.

That would be the greatest fight ever!!!

Technically Vizio is not responsible for supporting the playstation 3,
and technically sony is not responsible for supporting the vizio..

Do you have a buddy that owns a HD tv, maybe you could bring it to his or her
house and test your cable with your ps3 with there tv and see if it creates the same issue.

If switching cabes did not solve the problem it is either the ps3 or it is the tv, so the next point is to discover which one is the culprit and just because someone got it to work on there tv does not mean that the tv that you own has no fault.

Nor does it mean that there is no fault in the ps3, so the conclusion is to rule one of them regardless how unlikely that it could be that device.

thanks knight..personally id love to see that fight also..Prior to ordring the both the tv and the ps3 both reps told me there would be no problem with compatability, now that i won them both those reps are nowhere to e found...Im thinking it must either a faulty hdmi port or a non-compatable hdmi cable. I ordered a new hdmi cable from monoprice, lets see how that works out

i had an issue with mine as well. when i turn on the ps3 it would say a hdmi detected want to use? i would say yes and then nothing, black screen on both tv inputs. i got around this by using the component first, turning the ps3 on, then connect hdmi. or just say no to hdmi detected. then manually set up display for hdmi. it works for me everytime.

25¢ says Vizio will tell you it's either the cables or the PS3.

I had the exact same problem, try hooking it up through component then go to the ps3 menu and setup the hdmi connection

just hook it up with the COMPOSITE wires that came with it (right white yellow). go into settings and change it to HDMI. turn it off, and plug in the hdmi wire, turn it on

ALSO hope i dont get flamed for this because i know theres people on here who LOVE cheapskate hdmi wires, but try a 1080p certified wire, i worked at circuit city and witnessed 2 different blu ray players stop making a picture on 4 separate occasions, after 1 hour of use because it wasnt using a 1080p certifed HDMI.

You quoted the wrong person..

nyquietstorm is having the issue.

I have a Sony Bravio and are not featuring any
issues.

Default No problems

My 26" Vizio has no problems displaying PS3 HDMI 720p. Though the PQ isn't as good as the 42" 720p Sony RP and 1080p 60" RP.

an hdmi cable is an hdmi cable except for high bandwidth long runs, if it stoped working at cc it was not the cables fault if the cable couldn't carry the resolution it wouldn't have worked to begin with.

i would try what others have suggested and hook it up with the composit cables and the hdmi cable at the same time then switch the video output to hdmi, then turn your tv to hdmi input ( you have 30 seconds to do so ) and it should display a message asking if you would like to keep these settings, click yes and you should be off and running with hdmi.

we used those plain black cable that you could get online for $1.99, and i have seen two types of hdmi failures, one i cannot completely explain why.

1. when using them on larger TV's (ESPECIALLY 58" panasonic plasma 1080p) after about 2 hours you would see a couple horizontal lines of static across the bottom half of the screen. then about another hour later the screen would go black. We kept swapping out the cheap wires until we put on belkins or monsters. Im not sure why the cheapo wires couldnt handle it, but as soon as we put on a 49$ belkin wire or a 99$ monster wire it worked fine.

2. second case we would just get no picture or sound, and tv wouldnt even recognize there is an hdmi input. BUT if you wiggle the hdmi plugs at the ends, it would work again. This is because the cheapo 2$ wires do not lock into place, and pretty much any wire over 39$ actually snaps. This problem happened with the old S1 sony blu ray player, and both a 61" samsung DLP and a 46" XBR2<---(a year ago)

After the returns ive seen from the in-house circuit city brand hdmi wire "nexxtec" i'll never spend less then 50$ on an hdmi wire.

monster is ridiculous on prices, i buy belkin
