Default What video card should I get

I am thinking about getting an ATI Radeon HD 4850 card. I was also looking at the 4870 but am wondering if that would give me any advatages when it comes to blu-ray playback. I rarely play games so I am wondering what video card would be the best for blu-ray. Also if another brand would be better. I am also thinking about getting this reciever next:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...-1018AH-K.Kuro

So I want to be able to send the Audio and Video to that via HDMI. I am running Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 ultra under Windows Vista home premium.

those cards are overkill if your just planning on watching blu-rays... those are gaming cards

you could get a 3470 or even a 2400 series card if your just plannin on watching blus

I just looked at the 3470. It only specifies 5.1 channel audio where the 4850 lists 7.1 The 4850 lists Dolby True-HD which the 4830 doesn't. But the 4830 says "including" So not sure if it supports Dolby True-HD? If somone here could clarify that for me it would be appreciated.

How about 4670? It supports 7.1. I use the 4670 1GB for BD playback and I'm happy with it. Occasionally I play UT3 at max setting and it performs just fine.

Here is what is says under Specifications:
"Integrated HD audio controller with up to 2 channel 48 KHz stereo or multi-channel (7.1) AC3 enabling a plug-and-play cable-less audio solution"

The 4850 says:
"Integrated HD audio controller with support for stereo and multi-channel (up to 7.1) audio formats, including AC-3, AAC, DTS, DTS-HD & Dolby True-HD4, enabling a plug-and-play audio solution over HDMI"

So the 4670 only says AC-3 for multi channel. So does the 4670 support all the audio formats?

I'm not 100% sure, but most likely not as it doesn't say full 7.1 channel.

That is interesting seems like a lot of people having trouble. Maybe I will go with the 4850 that way I wont regret going to cheap and want another card next week (this one should keep me happy for a couple months). Or should I just spend a little more and get the 4870? I can't seem to find what the difference is.

If you are not gaming - get the HD 4550 by Asus at Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121281

It supports full 7.1 channel audio converted to LPCM. Just don't use a Yamaha or Denon receiver with these cards (you will need another device for them to work properly with these receivers).

As long as it will work with the pioneer reciever I can save a little money to spend more on speakers. Thanks for clarifying things for me.
