Default N.Y. Mayor and Commissioner don't like GTA 4

Well this doesn't come as a suprise.

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/pos....html#comments

Quote:
Like Bully before it, Grand Theft Auto 4 is being picked-apart and condemned long before its release. This time the culprit isn't Jack Thompson; it's New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"The mayor does not support any video game where you earn points for injuring or killing police officers," Bloomberg said in a statment.

New York police commissioner Raymond Kelly agrees: "It's despicable to glamorize violence in games like these, regardless of how far-fetched the setting may be," he told the Associate Press.

This is all in spite of the fact that GTA 4:
  • Is set in a fictional city.
  • May not contain any violence at all: No details have been released as far as gameplay mechanics go.
  • Is just a freaking game.
May not contain any violence at all: No details have been released as far as gameplay mechanics go.
Is just a freaking game.
Please, New York City officials, focus on actual problems that happen in the real world instead of imaginary problems in fake videogames. For instances: Please do something about the midwestern tourists who walk around Times Square without a care in the world.

Ever since Guiliani got rid of the junkies and homeless people, bus-tour monkeys from the fly-over states have been walking through formerly terrifying combat zone neighborhoods as if they're at the mall! This has got to stop.

We can't wait to play GTA 4 to put the fear of God in those people...

Yeah, way to go NY!!! How about focusing on the fact that we're one of the most over-taxed states in the country, and that how most of the money we here in the upstate pay go down there to subsidize their bullsh|t.

As soon as I can afford it, we're so moving, no reason to stay in this rathole of a state anymore.

I would say sucks to be you but here in the UK, TAX is super expensive. Everything in the US is cheaper then anything in the UK. The ps3 is £425/$778 and we had no cheaper version. Anyway back to the point. I think people like tis don't deserve to be Mayor or Commissioner. There little fu**ing ***** holes who pick at what people enjoy. Who does it harm? No one. I bet you any money that more then half of the police force in NY play GTA.

Bloomberg needs to get with the program. As long as we have the 1st Amendment in America he can go to Hell. Sorry that you New Yorkers have to leave because of b.s. high taxes. You're more than welcome to come on out to Kansas where we believe in small government.

i highly disagree. new york is a shithole. now i wonder why those planes flew into the towers. i have nothing against that although when you really think about it. New york isnt really all that special. And if im not mistaken, Chicago is a way better city to live in than New York anyday. Plus our hotdogs are the best in the country. Vienna hotdogs for all of you that dont know. Plus were getting the olympics so NYA!!. BLU RAY ROX!!! had to keep it on topic somewhat

Well mr. mayor need to get his facts straight. In any GTA game killing police officers doesn't award you points...in fact it warrants stars which inevitably sends the swat team after you, which in turn either "wastes" or "busts" your character stripping him of all his weapons...and possibly causes you to fail missions.

Obviously New York City cant suck that bad if rockstar has used it as a backdrop for many of the GTA games including the nw one.

Take it easy with that comment there as well that wasnt just an attack on New Yotk but America and the free world as a whole and seeing the huge clouds of smoke in the skyline from where i live and knowing people that died there i would not wish that on anyone.

Actually, that WOULD be a good reason to be classified as bad city. Especially, if they keep choosing NYC because they can't think of a more crime infested city filled with hookers, pimps, gangs, etc.

St. Petersburg, Florida would make a good setting for a GTA game.

I am not saying that New York City is the safest, but i have been there many times without problems not to say nothing could ever happen. Of cousre there are parts o the city you dont want to go to, but that is like any city and considering the population being greater the some states you would have to expect that they would have some problems.

Exactly. It's all relative. Any time you have that many people in an area, there is bound to be more issues than somwhere that is much smaller (population wise).

I'm just sick of NY for the taxes. Well, the winters don't help either, but they'd be a lot easier to bear if the taxes and cost of living would come more in line.

this thread is kind of dumb.

As far as Mayors go, Bloomberg is an OK mayor. While He does some controvercial things,(like eliminating smoking in bars and restaurants) Unless you hate moderate rupublicans, theres no reason to hate this guy.

Someone brought it to his attention that the next gta was in NYC, (and it is... I dont care what you want to make believe liberty city is...its friggin nyc...argument over) And he has a standard cookie cutter response that any responsible person would have. Ive seen time and time again, posts on this and frankly i think its comical that it got attention at all.

I have yet to see any other quote from either of them regarding this.

BTW. Guliani and Bloomberg are responsible for making NYC one of the safest cities in the US. Its a big difference as to how it was in the 80's with Dinkins.
