Default Switched ac outlet

Howdy everyone....I have a Yamaha AVR that has 2 power outlets on the back. I was under the impression that anything plugged into these, as long as their power is on, should power up when the AVR is turned on. What happens is, they do power up, but then shut off within 10 seconds, and I have to hit their power buttons after that, to make them come on. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I'm no expert but you might want to re-boot the AVR. Hold the on/off button down for 10 seconds or more for the machine to re-boot. Hope this is what the problem is and not a major mishap with the AVR.

Thanks for the reply. Will this wipe out my configuration?

I am not sure on your AVR. It should not, but don't hold me to that statement. This is the least expensive move you can make right now vs getting the AVR looked at.

What does the user manual say about current draw on the 2 switched outs? It could be that as the two loads are booting up the Yamaha AVR can't keep up and current to the loads sags, whereupon the two loads shut down. Powering them up separately, or at least out of synch, lowers the peak current draw on the AVR, keeping everyone happy...

Try powering up the AVR with the two loads OFF, then switching on each load individually. If everything comes up OK, then you have not solved the problem, but you have isolated the cause.

It says 120v, 60hz, 100W max, total switched.

As a matter of fact, for the longest time I only had a dvd player hooked up to it and it did the same thing, and for the last couple months, Ive had my BD player plugged into the 2nd outlet, and same thing as well.

Well neither my Yamaha DVD player (DVD-S1500) or my BD player (Sony BDP-S350) stay in when I turn my current receiver on (HTR-5250). They both turn on for about 5 seconds then shut off. I have a RX-V663 new in the box still that I havent had time to hook up yet, so I took that out, plugged both my players into it, and same thing. So I took out my OLD dvd player, and older yamaha out of the closet, and that comes on and stays on. Further more I plugged my BD player into a power strip and turned the power strip off then back on to simulate the problem, and same thing...It stays on for about 5 seconds then shuts off. Do these newer players mot like that feature being in the ON mode and juice sent right to them? Im stupmed. Please tell me someone had this happen, and better yet, solved it....

Thanks!

Not sure if I should start a separate thread about this, but I thought it somewhat related. If one has a set of lights plugged into that outlet in the receiver, is there typically a button on the remote that allows one to switch off that outlet? Reason I ask is that I could set up a macro in the remote that when Play is pressed, it switches off the ambient lighting...
Yes, I should really just look at the manual - but I thought I'd ask while I'm thinking of it in case others have come up with cleaner solutions.

Cheers!

I went over to the local HT shop and they said its because the newer DVD players and BD players are so heavily software based, that they are actually rebooting when I turn the reciever on, kind of just like your cable box when you disconnect it and it has to go thru its routine when you connect it to power again. They even suggested to never plug newer software based components into switched AC outlets. Sounds logical to me.

some controls will utilize the "Z-wave" or "X-10" protocol and you can control fixtures with them....

If you find a way to do that please let me know because I will start plugging my leds into the receiver

If I didn't know better, I'd think you were making fun of me! Sounds like the fake techno-speak I use to baffle my wife occasionally...

I take it those are programming languages for the super fancy/pricey remotes & receivers? I use a pretty basic (but incredibly useful) Logitech remote, so I don't think it gets that fancy. But if there's a button on the receiver (or its remote), I can make the Logitech do the same thing.
I'll play with it over the weekend and report back.
