Do it!!

Seriously, I know how you feel and you got my full sympathy!
We live in an apartment complex and have neighbors to the left, right and below us. Then there is another house infront of ours not even 30 feet away.
Cannot wait to move either. I am just glad we do not have any one living above us, cause our neighbor downstairs tends to complain how loud our cats are running around in the middle of the night.

Been there, done that.

My neighbors kid had his car radio blaring that (c)rap music so loud that I could hear it from across the street in the back of my house. I opened my window and pointed my speakers out, put in AC/DC and queued up Thunderstruck and went outside with my PS3 controller(thank God for bluetooth) and let it loose. After a few minutes he got the point. On the plus side I found out I have a new neighbor a few doors down that likes AC/DC.

I used to have a couple of guys who were dj's living above me. Every once in a while they would bring their uber gear home for a party. The party would usually go until 4 or 5 in the morning. An hour after they finally went quiet, I would go out to the living room, throw in Marduk's Nightwing album, crank it up, and get my revenge.

I've been lucky so far, my neighbor on the side is hearing impaired, and my neighbors upstairs I think just don't care! I'd still rather get into my own house with a sound proofed movie room.

Now that's way to get revenge. They probably thought they died and woke up in hell after the party!
Think about trying their "Live in Germania" album if this should ever happen to you again. It's got a pretty pounding bass sound if you crank it up.

When I used to live in an apartment I always felt a little guilty playing music (I had a massive two channel speaker system) at anything above moderate levels. But living in a house brings other issues. A few years ago I installed a satellite dish on the roof and this very old neighbor got very upset and threatened me because of it. I found out later she thought it was hurting the "resale value" of her house.

used to have a neighbour that would complain at any notice of bass regardless of the time of day

he'd even complain about bass when it wasnt coming from our house.. i was like "well ur at my door.... theres no sound coming out of my house..." and he's like "well listen?! where is it coming from?!!"

but yet when the people who live behind us have loud parties in their backyard until the early morning he ignores... doesnt complain at all... wth?

he'd even complain if people were working on their cars in their driveway.. he even called the cops on another neighbour once because he had his car radio playing while he was workin on the engine

this was when i was a teenager... so being foolish i got my revenge with my friends through eggs (seems stupid now but it didnt back then!)

Default This brings back memories!

Well...

For awhile back-in-the-day I had a roommate, and his mother bought us a Condo to live in...... it was certainly nicer than most "kids" our age had, and it showed.......because our neighbors were O-L-D.

We weren't "out of control" and crazy or anything...... (occasional acid party or so) but the neighbors still hated us..... and here is why.....

1) Neighbor called the cops on my roommate for vaccuming out his car with a shop-vac because "Car Maintenance" was against association rules unless you did it INSIDE your garage (which cost $5,000 extra, so we didn't have one!!! we just had parking spaces assigned to us)

2) We'd get complaints filed to the housing association for "Watching Television at late hours of the night" yeah .... that's a good one.... I didn't even have a surround system etc... it was just an old console television, and we'd watch T.V. after work/studying etc.......

MEANWHILE we had a neighbor across the hall that was a human timer...... we always knew when it was 7:00 in the evening, because her hearing was so bad, we could hear EVERY WORD of "Wheel of Fortune" every night..... one time, we were laughing, because we put Wheel of Fortune on our T.V. and put it on mute, and there was practically no difference

3) Drinking beer at the pool....... yeah... the rules say "no glass containers" so we'd just drink cans of beer by the pool........ apparently people had a problem with that..... like I said, we didn't crush cans, and cause a "ruckous" we just had a few beers by the pool.....

I think it's age discrimination (I'm not being facetious either)

I don't doubt it. There seem to be a lot of people who associate satellite dishes with trailer parks. The civilized people all had access to cable lines.

I do think they look tacky though.

I lived in an apartment for most of undergrad, and all of grad school. I remember one year, I was watching the Super Bowl with some friends, and I didn't even have it on very loud. Literally within 5 minutes of the game ending, a neighbor knocked on my door and asked if I could turn my TV down, since the game was now over.

And then last year, I felt bad for the person living directly under me. She was a splitting image of Natalie Portman, so I didn't want to do anything to make her hate me. But unfortunately Rock Band came out, and the nights when I had a lot of people over, I imagine she heard a lot of rumbling in her ceiling (and maybe some nice singing echoing down through the chimney).

Rock Band is definitely much better now, living in a house.

I got families as neighbors and the only noise that usually sometimes come through is the kids chatting out loud as they play or whatever.
I don't have a problem with that. On the contrary it feels like the place is a bit alive which nicely counter balances my own place which is dead calm.
