Help please.. - Blu-ray Forum

My mate just called me and he cant play any of his PS3 games!! Blu rays work fine, but when he inserts a game and selects it the Playstation 3 screen comes up with the "bling" noise, flickers, then jumps back to the XMB!!!

What is going on? It is happening with all his games, and they worked previously!!

Its a 80g PS3, only bought last week...

From what I'm thinking, your friend needs to unlock the PS3 game format option. Sorry that I can't be much help because its been awhile since I owned a PS3. The members of these forums may help you.

Ok Saints Row 2 and Madden 09 do not work. Formula 1 works... They are the only 3 games he has. Like I said, Saints Row worked yesterday!! Madden 09 is new today..

This is very weird.. Any suggestions??

yeah dvds work too... so its only the games!! Disaster.. I had converted him to ps3 and blu ray and now this happens!! He is majorly p'd off..

Ok, This is kindodf a shot on the dart board but I got 2 options. First, Firmware. Probably the first thing you check though. Second, It mite be some corrupted in-game save files, maybe try deleteing the files and reinstall it... kindof like its the first time you've inserted the disc. If all else fails reinstalled the O/S.

Well §hit happens so if he blaming you thats kind of over reacting since you did nothing to his ps3 tell him to call sony and get it fixed if its still under warranty

If he just bought it last week have him take it back and exchange for a new one (tell him to save his game stats though, so he won't have to start all over again).

Find out if he has the latest firmware update, if not have him update and then check.

If that fails, have him transfer his saved games to a USB, then format the hard drive.

Like the previous poster said, check the firmware and make sure its up to date. ALSO.. the PS3 is very sensitive to smudges, scratches etc.. It may be as simple as a dirty disc, Clean the game disc very nicely (no smudges, thumbprints) and it may work perfectly afterwards. I have had the non playing issue as well with games and Blu Ray movies, cleaned the discs, and they have worked great after that.

Its fixable. You probably don't need to call Sony. Just format the PS1 PS2 PS3 hard drives since its just the games.

is formatting the drive a simple thing to do? like just wipes the drive clean right? Would the latest update have to be downloaded again?

Its very simple to do. Just to go System Settings, Format Ultility, Formart Hard Drive.

This will not delete the firmware, but it will delete everything thats saved on the hard drive.

If your friend bought his PS3 preowned, then that usually means the previous owner didn't take very good care of their PS3. Shame on them

Trust me, I understand his frustration, but the positives of a PS3 is immense compared to the infrequent negatives that happen.
