Default Best Buy Caught Tricking Customers

Link
Quote:
Wow, those Best Buy technicians are amazing, aren't they?
Electronics retailing giant Best Buy is stooping once again to generate business, showing they are willing to go to any length to get it, and they are certainly not going to let truthfulness or ethics get in the way.

Seems Robert went HDTV shopping at Best Buy for his father and noticed something odd about the Geek Squad HDTV calibration service sales display. The HDTV showing the benefits of calibration was tuned to ESPN HD and unsurprisingly showed a crisp detailed picture. The other before HDTV, of identical model, had a blurred and grainy picture, but not because of the skills of the Geek Squad. According to Robert, the before HDTV was also tuned to ESPN, but not the HD version, which Best Buy employees had gone to some lengths to disguise by hiding the SD channel logo behind a sign advertising extended warranty plans.

LOL, they tried selling me that calibration setting thing too when I got a new tv a few months back. All the guy did was go to the picture setting, which there was three. Dynamic, something, and movie. And he tried showing how different it was and all that LOL. I told him I'll pass and that I know somebody that knows how to do it and he was trying to say these guys are professionals and not a lot of people have been trained how do it and bla bla bla

This is exactly one of the reasons why I will NEVER use the the blue-shirt idiots for my calibration needs. Sure, they would be way more convenient, but my trust in anything BB-related is practically non-existent.

Tricky bastards!

The best thing you can do is become an informed consumer before buying something. Don't listen to the slick salesperson.

They don't have the HD after the name, so I think that's what they saw.

So was I a moron for getting the ISF calibration on my Sony LCD.

I considered doing this until I realized that no one would take the time and care to set it up the way I wanted it to be. I bought a calibration DVD and spent a lot of time doing homework and tweaking and finally got it right. It would have been a tremendous waste of time and money. I wasn't going to pay someone to get it "in the ballpark".

As long as it was an ISF certified tech you should be fine. Despite what some people say (who probably don't understand what exactly a proper calibration entails), an ISF calibration can provide a fairly noticeable increase in picture quality over a set that was just tweaked with a calibration disc. Not saying that the case in point isn't pretty ridiculous, but it's definitely a worthwhile investment.

I don't think anybody got your post, or at least didn't acknowledge it.
