Just wondering what to do? I got the 805 about 6 weeks ago and the thing cut off on me this evening right in the middle of playing some xbox. It restarted itself and was fine until i switched to watch a bluray and no sound would come out and while i was messing with it i got no picture too, but it the picture came on after restarting everything. i have everything going through the 805 via hdmi. i have gotten the dts bomb once but when i went through onkyo to get the firmware they sent me the url but when i log on it wont take my serial number even though i could register it. i am thinking it was a mistake getting this from ecost now but if anyone has any suggestions please let me know asap!!! thx

This happened to me with an earlier Onkyo and it was indeed the speaker wires. IMHO, I would disconnect every speaker from the rear of the receiver EXCEPT for one speaker(maybe the center) and see if you get sound. Also try the ZONE 2/3 outputs.

thanks I will try that, i have everything bi-amped by the way on 6ohm. the reciever from ecost does have a 1yr warranty through onkyo. i will just have to convince them this thing needs to be replaced. should have gone crutchfield..they rock on customer service.

I also had a bad experience with E-Cost. I ordered an 805 from them and I got a defective unit. It had absolutely no audio. I thought i was doing something wrong with the setup or the connections so then i called ONKYO themselves.
They had me run some trial and error tests and narrowed it down to a defective receiver ![]() I have had absolutely no problems with my new unit (i will never buy refurbed again). And i will never buy from E-Cost again either. I hope you kept the original packaging it came in, in case you need to send it back. Good luck in fixing your problem... ![]() |

I've bought several pieces of equipment from eCost with no issues at all.
The 1-year warranty is an authorized Onkyo warranty through their dealer network, so it can be taken to any Onkyo dealer for warranty issues. If there is a firmware update to be done, they'll do that while it is in as well. Anything about it that is defective will be replaced - I would not start panicking when you're within the manufacturer's warranty. |

thanks doby, hey i tried the firmware but when i go to the url they gave me, my serial number does not take. i did register it with onkyo though. any thoughts? the firmware they gave me was for the dts bomb only, wonder if the unit i have needs everything? by the way, i can do the level calibration in the onkyo menu and they all work ( i can hear sound from all speakers) and got some sound briefly on cable but it went away, same with bluray, i used thx and it worked but then turned off.

I would try calling Onkyo directly (Tech Specialist) they were very helpful with my issue. Also, have you called E-Cost, to see what they can do? If they were as reputable a company as others claim, they should do whatever is in their power to help you out. It is only two weeks over their return policy right. After you call them, depending on the outcome, would be how i would gage their customer service.

adamh, check to see if the "stereo headset" icon is active on the front display. I had purchased a unit that seemed to be stuck on that setting and, therefore, wouldn't allow any sound to travel to the speakers. If this is the case with your unit, there is no choice but to have it replaced. I was told that by Onkyo themselves. However, they weren't very nice about it since I am a Canadian resident that purchased it in the U.S.

well, I took it to our local onkyo repair shop. looks like it going to be a few weeks, the guy said they wont even be able to look at it until after thanksgiving!! Nice service $#%%, I work on pc's, servers, networking equipment and have fix stuff within 40 hrs, they seemed a little slack!!! wondering if e-cost would just take the thing back even though its been over 4 weeks.
